Salon, editor Andrew Leonard serves up a scorching review of last night's CSI: Miami episode, "Urban Hellraisers." The show depicted - what else - rampaging video gamers.

"In conjunction with the venom and disgust that enfuses the word 'gamer' when it's spoken by star David Caruso, aka 'Horatio Crane,' it is made clear... that people who play games are but one step removed from pedophiles or suicide bombers in the social hierarchy of evil..."

"When Horatio confronts a slick, smarmy executive from the company that makes the game, the suit refuses to divulge any information about the internal narrative of the game that would help the cops figure out the next target of the criminals.

"It turns out that executive isn't just smarmy - he's Satan. Not only is the company providing bad role models to the youth of today, but, in an effort to boost sales in a competitive industry, it's also actively supplying college students with Tec-9 automatics and encouraging them to murder innocent people... This neatly solves the problem of whether video games are responsible for violent behavior."
Just one hour of watching David Caruso's leaden acting and banging my head against this ridiculous plot did, I confess, make me want to get my own Tec-9 and start laying waste to television executives. But I refrained, just as 99 percent of everyone who has ever played a violent game refrains from throwing a punch at someone in flesh and blood. "

****ing stupid hollywood ...CSI is leaps and bounds more violent than any video game ever made ...just the other day I saw a scene from CSI that featured a close up of a snake coming out of mouth of a decaptiated rotting head ...yet video games show violent imagery? ****ing kneejerk hysteria plays well in the sticks, they'll lap this up like the mindless drones they are

CSI? I thought that the TV show was interesting. Except for the Doom3 * 120938 violence level.

The end of the world must be coming.

David Caruso is the main reason I dont watch Miami. (Still like the original CSI though) I wouldnt be suprised if he has something to do with writing this shite.

the show in my opinion is about as realistic as star trek or planet of the apes

HAHAHA thats laughable

that people who play games are but one step removed from pedophiles or suicide bombers in the social hierarchy of evil..."
is this a joke?
what a total ****ing idiot!

So, there aren't people beheading and force-feeding snakes to people in America?

Why are they attacking video games anyway?

cuz it's the "in" thing to do ...the episode closely resembles Jack thompsons charge that Grand Theft Auto was responsible for a shooting spree that killed 2 police officers ...it's for ratings....besides you're from Korea I would have thought that you'd be used to the media using fear mongering as a way of influencing issues. ;)

Come 2008 I believe both presidential candidiates will use gaming/entertainment censorship as a platform policy ..it's where it's heading as parents are getting concerned over the "effects" of gaming on their kids ...it's just nonsensical fear mongering

Yeah, it makes me giggle the way that they do all the work, from analyzing the crime scene, to doing all the science, to interviewing suspects. 'Tis silly.

Also, I've noticed (and this is particularly relevant in CSI:NY) that if there is ever a forgeiner involved (whether he/she is from the UK, Africa, Australia, whatever) they are always either the culprit, or in some way the 'bad guy'.

QFT :|

Last time I saw the show, they examined a five year old kid that was put in a box and left to die there by starvation over a timespan of two weeks. Almost puked.

heh typical hollywood for you

I guess what I dislike about the show is that every single person who works in that department are overachievers beyond what is reasonable ...I've never in my 20 years of being in the work force met a Grisham, never mind a whole office full of Grishams ....the majority of people are incompetant to within varying degrees of each other ..seldom are people brilliant in their field ...and I'm also talking about at the professional level (ie: doctors, lawyers).

CSI should be banned causes miscarriages of justice. Honestly, murderers have been let off in the face of overwhelming evidence simply because the jury watched too much CSI and would not pass a 'guilty' verdict. DNA test evidence. Trails have outstayed their welcome because the jury watched too much CSI and demanded a DNA test, apparently not realising the process can take weeks.

Wow. Never again will I watch that show. If anyone attacks games like that I will refuse to watch/buy whatever it is that company does. If enough of us do that it will show them we make up a large majority in America and attacking gamers is not wise for their business. If it is a sole individual then we can just let them be idiots until they get their liscense revoked. haha

...and they have the nerve to release shitty spin-off videogames?

They're just bitter because their CSI games were amongst the most badly rated games in history.

That is hilarious. CSI Miami is one of the worst shows I've ever, ever seen ever. I want a copy!

I wouldn't say its a terrible show, but then again i thought it was pretty damn lame that they did a tsunami episode not long after that big one struck in Banda Aceh.

Plus CSI has always been way more lame than Law & Order. I like to think of CSI as the McDonalds of crime shows. Everyone watches it and claims to love it, but really, its not that good at all and we all know it.

True dat.

I saw this crap and immidiately thought, "I wonder how much Thompson is giggling right now."

I normally enjoy all 3 of the CSIs, but I have to admit, that was pretty shitty.

That had to have been one of the worst episodes of TV I have ever seen. I mean, honestly.
There were so many ridiculous things in that episode I can't even begin to describe them. Obviously none of the writers actually did any research at all. YAY FOR PUBLIC FEARS.

lol.

CSI is a realy poor show, I heard they did an investigation where they took a photo of someones eye and they were able to see the killer from that.

I ****ing love Law and Order. Best cop show ever! (Especially the spin off series with that dude from Full Metal Jacket)

Yeah Criminal Intent is great, but i still think SVU is the best.

CSI attacks everything they can. I still remember the ep they bashed furries.

Yeah, Miami has never really been a great tv show. I wonder why they keep giving CSI titles to various cities, none of the spinoffs get good ratings anyway.

I had forgotten about that thread ....would you like to tell us why you havent? :naughty:

Wow, well just glad they didn't ruin the normally decent Vanilla CSI with that crap. Despite the fact that CSI does stereotype things a fair bit i still like it. Favourite was the one with Tarantino as write or producer or whatver

But, sheesh, everyone is jumping on the anti-Gaming train nowadays aint they

I didnt like that one. It wasnt tarantino-ish enough to warrant the amount of hype they gave it.

Good point mate, but it was a nice break from the usual CSI. The darker atmosphere was good
