I got HL2 for christmas as did many ppl. I have a good one tho. Install went ok but when game launches it's a little hesitant I get a black screen that flashes once and then when the menu load screen comes up it goes out and I get the back screen until the menu has finished loading. When I got to start a game after the loading is done and the world is about to reveal my computer restarts for me. my system is a xp2200 fx 5200 ultra 768mb of ram on win xp pro. I see absoloutly no reason why this game won't run...I have updated all drives except my mobo drivers. as I don't see a reason and I didn't see any updates anyway. I have looked everywhere and haven't found anything. all video settings are default and settings within windows are application controlled. PLEASE HELP! thank you in advance

my problem is just like yours but i can get to play. it just dies and reboots. I feel your pain man and if i find something out ill tell ya( i got hl2 for xmas also

This error tells me you have bad RAM. Run memtest and change your RAM and you'll have no problems.

bad ram my ass...1 gig of crucial pc2700 purchased today. Try again?
I got it so I can run and play now I get the stutter bug ppl speak of...I downgraded my video card drivers. this was last night before ram upgrade. today I still have the stutter shit. Now I am looking for a fix for this one..until then I'll play xbox or ps2 if there is no fix. no big.

I get the same problem. My computer specs are as so:

AMD Athlon 1.2ghz
512MB DDR RAM
GeForce 4 4200Ti
Windows XP Pro

The only thing old on my computer is the processor and RAM but it isn't all that old. So, maybe if someone figures this out they can let everyone know because I would like to play.

At first it was just loading into the game in Full Screen where it rebooted. In windowed mode it lets me get up to loading into the first chapter and it reboots then. It isn't a good thing. :/

that's exactly how mine was. Try downgrading your video drivers to the last ones not the newest but version just before. That is how I was able to get in game and load into first level...now the stuttering is a different story I give up on that one.

The game for me was working completely fine... I have..
P4 1.5GHz
512MB SDRAM
Radeon 9200SE
Win XP Pro

the only thing that bugs me...are the bugs in the game!!!

maybe you installed it wrong, or blasted it with static...

Why don't you try again at learning the meaning of faulty RAM before opening your mouth. I'm sure you could find another orifice to talk out of, though.

maybe instead of topic hopping and flaming someone who is having troubles with this game post something useful???

Check your ram with memtest, there is such thing as faulty ram from the factory.

What make is your motherboard?

Probably the best way would be to run 3dmark03 or 05 depending on your constantly for a couple of hours.
