CRASH CRASH CHRRRASH..bang

hi,

i recently got Half life 2 (dvd)

and its all installed and steam is working etc

it updated half life2 etc etc


but when i go to play it when it has loaded and goes onto the main menu at the start it freezes and the sound loops

i have to restart it.


dont suppose any of you know how to fix this so it works

i have a radeon 9550 graphics card and its all updated so is directx.

yer i just managed to watch the first intro,

...and then it crashes here now instead of the start.

well, i guess its an improvement

What sound card do you have?

i think its called a realtek AC97 audio

im not to sure if its a soundcard or not or if its just built in or what ever

ill try it all again, the thing i didnt do is update my motherboard

i think i have a asrock amd-ali (or somthing)

on their site it says they dont recommend users to update BIOS while the system is running well.

so i didnt update + i dont know what socket to update also lol

...damn my ignorance lol

You don't have to try it all again, if it won't work now, it probably won't work this time

If those things don't help, it might be the hardware that doesn't work correctly.
If you have two (or four) sticks of RAM :
Try running HL2 with only one stick of RAM. If it doesn't work, try the other stick of RAM. (If you have four: repeat the process). If it still doesn't work, you should try putting in another stick of RAM (Make sure it is the same FSB and Mhz as the current ones) you took from another computer.

You could also try updating the BIOS and make sure you have the latest updates for all your hardware. (Including sound card, network card,...)

All this stuff is highly technical, and you should get someone who knows a lot about computers and their insides to help you. Let them read this thread, so they might have an idea where the problem might reside.

If you do not know much about computer insides, do not open your computer or you might break something. Or even worse, you might get electrocuted and die.

And BIOS means Basic Input/Output System, and is kind of your basic operating system for your computer.
(Operating System = For example : Windows XP)
