Hey all, I'm having trouble getting HL2 to run. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
Problem: During the introductory video sequence, it is partway through, after some radio chatter and what not just staring at the same square with the combine walking around. Then one of two things happen. Running the game normally, I hear windows error boxes pop up, and then my computer freezes, specifically my mouse and keyboard input, indicating the computer has locked up. If I run the game with -dxlevel 70 in the shortcut command line, I get a blue screen stating that my nvidia.dll driver has caused an error and the computer is shutting down.
System:
Dell Inspiron 8500
64 MB Nvidia 4200 Go (4x AGP)
512 MB RAM
40 GB HD
Mobile Intel Pentium 4 2.20 GHz
WhatI have done.
I have updated the audio and video drivers, as well as the BIOS. I have tried artificially setting the DirectX to 7.0 with the -dxlevel 70 command. I have tried running the game with no sound (muted).
Any other ideas? Thanks.
Also, if you know how to command the game to skip the introductory sequence, any way at all, if you could tell me I would be grateful. Thanks
