Crash during loading phase, restarts PC

Hiya,

My first post here. I have the latest steam updates, playing along quite nicely, however last night i experienced a crash during a loading phase between sections on the hover jet canal chapter. The crash blacked out the screen and walla! my PC is restarting.

My specs are:

P4 2.4
845 Intel Chipset
512 DDR 2100
BFG 6800 GT OC 256MB (running latest nvidia drivers 66.93 or something?)
Soundblaster Live Value (running winxp drivers, probably quite old)
Running Directx 9.0c

Really just wanting to know if anyone here has experienced the PC restarting crash and what it might mean?

wondering if someone can give some information, i think it maybe that my system is overheating. I have a 300w power supply running my BFG (300W being minimum) maybe the power supply doesnt have enough power to run the BFG and keep the case cool at the same time? Think i might by a 400-450W power supply and in the meantime keep the case open with cool air blowing in......

Can anybody elaborate more for me.......im quite sure im not totally guessing, a system restart would usually mean overheating, right?

mine has the same problem except it restarts at random times whenever HL2 is open. sometimes it crashes when im loading, and other times it just crashes at random which totally kills the immersion. i would appreciate it if someone could solve this problem for those people who have their HL2 restarting every time they play.

Is it halflife only that restarts or is it your PC that restarts?

What are your system specs?

HL2 and CS:S seem to randomly crash for me... half the time it crashed before I even get to the main menu. I've only gotten to actually play the game once and that wasn't for long.
I get hard system crashes that reset my machine.
I don't have this problem with the original HL or CS or my other games...
yay for Valve, I've spent lots of money, waited 6 hours for steam to download, wait insane loading time only to have it crash on me constantly.

I just bought Half-Life 2 today. I've been sitting for the past 3 hours waiting for the Steam Updating process to finish. It has restarted 3 times. The update is finished now, but when i click on the hl2 icon it doesnt even start! The only thing changing is i can see the cursor change to the "working a little" cursor. I've tried starting from the shortcut on my desktop, from autorun, the HL2 folder and DVD-folder and the startmenu. How can I play my HL2?? plz answer asap

Restart the pc.

Clean it out of spyware etc.

If the steam tray icon has dots, it's actually updating the game.

yeah, im seeing it this way to, im going for a Thermaltake 410W PSU, ill see how that goes.

well I got my PSU (Thermaltake 480W with PFC). Ive been playing for a few days now without a single restart so its fixed my problem. Hope this helps others.
