Crash on startup in gmod. HELP?

hey guys.

i was wondering if you guys have ever experience a problem where when you start up GMOD (or any other valve game maybe) it crashes when it is loading on the main screen.

A box pops up and it says "The instruction at "0xXXXXXXXX" referenced memory at "0xXXXXXXXX". The memory could not be "read". Click OK the terminate the program."

Ive looked all over the internet yet for some reason on every forum where people have asked this question and there has never been an answer just random rambling.

Ive already tried redownloading GMOD and before that i got rid of all of my addons. My friend suggested those ideas yet nothing.

SO, if anyone knows how to fix it or has had problems with it before please post something, im getting more impatient by the second. And PLEASE only post if you have something to say that will help me.

alright then, ive had a look at this site and im not willing to do any of this in fear of screwing up the computer. all ive done is disable background programs and that didnt help. so if anyone would like to go into that URL from the guy above me, read it and try and understand it please. Could someone please then provide a set of instructions in easy to understand words and post them onto this forum. Or if anyone knows a fix to this it would be great.
