hl2 crashes to the desktop with the windows "critical error"-sound (no error message, though) when loading certain parts of the game (so far, this has happend in black mesa east [right before alyx is supposed to hand out the gravity gun] and on highway 17 [right after the fight with the second gunship]). this always happens, irrespective of screen resolution, any other graphics settings, windows swap file size, etc - my workaround so far is to just skip the part that won't load, but this sucks. any ideas ? some system specs:
- win XP home
- 512mb RAM
- nvidia geforce 6600gt AGP card
- athlon XP 2400+ CPU
- 10gb free disk space (defragmented, scanned for errors)
- no overclocking
i just installed the game from the DVD, no problems there - so i guess it can't be a corrupted game file (disk is also ok).
