crashes to main menu

I recently bought HL2 and started playing it. there are some odd issuses
1) the fences are purple and black (or are the supose to be like that)

2) when I get to the second load point in the first chapter it crashes me back to the main menu. I can't continue the game and I hate to waste 50 bucks for 5 min of playing time. please help me with this!!!!!

I tried that and it didn't work.
is there some sort of cheat that will let me skip that chapter and move on with the game?

That's just it. You don't have all of the game. The reason some stuff is purple is because media is missing. You probably didn't verify all the cache files or the correct ones.

how do I do that, or do I need to reinstall the game?
