Hi.

So, here's my problem. When I play C&C Generals Zero Hour I can be 100% sure that it crashes, freezes or even turns off my computer (after about an hour when the system has just started, after some minutes when it already was running). I'm playing it on 1024x768 with all details turned on. My graphics-card is a Sapphire Radeon 9800Pro 128. The latest catalyst driverpack is installed. So why does the game crash? When I check the card's temperature it feels like I could boil an egg even on the cooling fan and stabs.

So, obviously the card gets hot way too fast; what to do now? Buy a better cooler? Suggestions on models?

BTW: Generals isnt very pretty on my computer with all details and stuff turned on; any ideas?

thx for help

Well, find out how hot it gets just playing other games first, that should tell you if it's definitely a problem with the card. Apparently Sapphire have had a bit of a bad rap with putting crappy cooling on their cards.

Ok, I'll find out what different temperatures are...

And about the thing with crappy coolers by sapphire: I'll get an alternative one then.

Cleaned my CPU cooler now btw *cough* lot's of dust in there...

apparently the sapphire card does run a little hotter than most
however, you should also consider your CPU to be overheated as well
it could also be a software problem... ie a conflict between C&C and drivers
check EA's forum for info

Ok, thanks for the info.

Obviously it was a matter of CPU-Heat; after I cleaned the cooler the game runs as it's supposed to run and the CPU stays at 38-40°. But the card still gets to hot imo. Will get a new cooler for that.

I got a 1.0 duron and my cooler is only rated for a 900 duron lol :P

Hot hot hot.

Are you sure that it's not the fan that's connected to the power-plug? Mine went kaput once, and it turned of my computer and it was ****ing WARM I TELL YA, I had to buy a new fan.
