Hm... It's likely that it's not caused by Valve. It could be other programs that are causing this...

I have the exact same problem. It happens while playing HL2, Counterstrike, and AOE3. But not FEAR for some reason? I would really like to know how to get rid of this as well. Ill post a screen friday.

I bet you're using an SLI system? That's a bar to show the load of each graphics card. You can turn in off in Nvidia display options > advanced.
