Crazy new features for the next Photoshop..

that panorama one should be bullshit

how the hell does it create data out of nowhere? Thats IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

I don't think it created anything new. It just took parts out of the original image.

Not really, they can calculate the spread patterns of the colours along with the shadows, highlights, contrast and etc

It's a idea that been around for a good while but a successful programmed to work properly has been the great challenge, and adobe have done it.

Content-aware fill has made my beautiful clone stamp obsolete. Don'r worry clone stamp, I will always love you. ;(

It still doesn't make any sense from my understanding. Namely the last piece. The last piece didn't just take data from the surrouding borders that he selected, but created entirely new cloud formations and mountains.

Also, this is the user's only video.

it didn't created entirely new cloud formations, it extended the pattern.

Guys look, I'm using the CS5 beta and I set the content aware tool to timelapse awareness with a setting of +5 months. It crashed midway, but since it's saving on the fly, I got this out of my original picture taken in August:

comp01b.jpg

Also, my camera battery died yesterday as I was about to take a picture, and CS5 nicely filled in the blanks in the photo I didn't take.

I would like to see the close up images to see how much of this has to be cleaned up. But pretty damn slick. Can't imagine the thinking that would have to go in to the programming of something this.

They actually justify the price-tag of Photoshop this time. "If you have to ask, you can't afford it."

This tool looks great and all but if they havn't sorted out all the shit docking/floating windows/UI issues its going to be as terrible as CS4.

CS2 FTW

Thirding the bullshit on that panorama shot. Seriously, HOW?

This is a legitimate video. Adobe has confirmed this feature for the next version of Photoshop.

As for how its actually done, I didn't listen to the audio of the video, but based on how it looks like it works, I'd take a guess that it first fills the seam between itself and new content by assuming the invariant that there are no sudden or sharp changes in the area without new content. It would then have to use feature detection to find unique features in the image (cloud formations, rocks, etc.), and blend in the ones which are similar statistically to the pixels near the seam. Finally, it would have to adjust luminance so that it was consistent with the luminance gradient of the image and the light sources in the image.

I could imagine they are showing outdoor images for this reason. The algorithm probably assumes that changes in luminance are smooth (ie, no sharp shadows or harsh lighting). It also probably wouldn't reproduce man-made patterns, or anything else that has a well defined structure quite so well.

Damn, thought I posted this first in the video dump.

Even if it's not as perfect as it looks, it would still give you an amazing starting point.

I *would* be interested to see what it would do with half a page of someone's handwriting though.
