I was told that only people who aren't behind routers can create a CSS server, so I tested this out with a few friends, and found this is true. If someone behind a router creates a server, and gives us their IP (www.whatismyip.com), we can't find the server.

So, is there a way for someone behind a router to create a server? If so, what is it? :bounce:

Thanks,
James

I would also really like to know! Shouldn't do this if you have a router.

i put the same basic question in this forum as well (NAT and setting up a server)... You are "supposed" to be able to specify the IP address as a launch option, so that your server will be registered with the master server, but it didn't work for me.

Let me know if you get it working... There HAS to be a way to get this working... I think we are just missing something

You have to open some inbound ports. This steam powered faq has them but I am not sure if its all the ports you will need to open: http://steampowered.custhelp.com/cg...nBfcGFnZT0xJnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9cG9ydHM*&p_li=

Some of it copied here for your convenience:

"The following ports must be open in your firewall and router for Steam and Steam Games to work:

UDP 1200 (used for friends service)
UDP 27000 to 27015 inclusive
TCP 27020 to 27050 inclusive

Computers running Dedicated Servers need these ports open:

UDP: 27015 and 27020 (default HLDS, SRCDS and HLTV port)
TCP: 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)"

In theory once you open the ports people will be able to see you, and for the original cs, you had to also do "sv_lan 0" in the console for my friend to see my server. This might be the same for css but I have not tried it so see if the command is there.

Wow that worked so well, thanks. I've been hosting for the past 4 days ;)
