Crosshairs?

I've searched this forum and others to no avail. I'm looking for a way to alter the default cross hairs in CS:S. I know that it can be done in regular CS. I was wondering if anyone has been able to or knows how to alter the hairs in CS:S. I'm looking to create a more military style crosshar similar to the "T" style.

because anticheat picks up on it as a modified file and bans you for cheating

Ah yes... a little more research found that you cant replace the crosshairs. The last time you could was when CS was in Beta V6. You "can" still replace the sniper crosshairs as far as I can tell.. but as I dont snipe .... ah well...

aye the sniper crosshairs change cos they dont grow as u shoot theyre just like an image over ur screen when u zoom

Yes, you can replace them. Get a sprite viewer/editer (Google it) then open the sprite file and change the reticule. I think the color HL/Source takes as clear is still pure blue (r:0 g:0 b:255)

Would you happen to know where the sprite file would be? I looked at all the TTF files and found all the icons for the weapons, etc but no cross hairs. I found a guide for how to edit them for HL2 but still nothing for counter strike. I have to assume that if you can for HL2 then "maybe" you can for CS:S.

You can edit it, since its just a image.

You can get rid of the black surrounding, which increases your view when sniping by 300%.... which is most definately cheating.

playing on low resolution in the original cs used to replace the black surrounding with a wide cross, everything else was transparent.
its pretty much the same thing youre talking about

I was going to make a post asking the same Q (I want to have a dot instead of the cross/x). From what i've read, it is considered to be a cheat if you modify/change the default crosshair? How so? How can I gain an unfair advantage by using a dot instead of the default cross/x? There isn't a legal "workaround" for this? I mean, I want a dot, yes, but if i'm gonna get kicked/banned for using one then I guess i'm stuck with the cross...

try cl_crosshairscale 15000

That will give you almost a dot... try 2000, that might be getting too small. I don't think it would be considered a cheat, you're just modifying the size, not the image. :thumbs:
