Looks a lot like Far Cry (the engine demos were better). I don't like the HUD, but otherwise looks pretty good. Dated for 2005.

the graphics looks very good bu the game dont looks so interesting

EDIT: prediticion on this thread:

Raziel-JDC (or something like that) will post:

"not interesed consoles sucks PC ownz blablablabla"

graphics are not that gr8,particurly the second shot, nothing we havent already seen with fc,doom,hl2,fear,etc

How can you guys tell if this is boring based on 3 screenshots?

There are more screens in the link.

I'm sure the graphics are amazing - but the typical "kill alien" cliche senses are tingling.

graphics are normal, just a shader making it all glowy so it looks purdy

The grass needs some randomness and variation to it, looks silly like that.

It looks good for a Xbox game but as TDE said, the grass looks funny.

The game doesnt look interesting but I will have to read about some of the gameplay befor I make a final judgement. What would make this game interesting is if in that 3rd screenshot with the grass and the fortress you were fighting alongside hundreds of your guys trying to get into the fort. And you had to bring the ladders up and you had guys fireing mortor shots and lots of explosiosn and grenades and death. Kinda like the alamo. (the 60's version, I havent seen the recent one)

Somehow I don't see that happening

But its just a bloom filter, there's nothing in there thats overly impressive. Anything looks nifty if you put some vaseline on the lens

For an X-Box it's pretty nice, but it really can't compete with Oblivion, or Age of Empires III for that matter.

I expected better from the next gen of consoles. Oh well, I guess they'll get better with time. Just compare Metal Gear Solid 3 or Silent Hill 4 to launch PS2 titles.

Source could easily pull off that kind of quality, better even. Just up the amount of prop_details used for foliage effects, and throw in a shader to give it the glow/bloom appearance all games seem to be doing these days.

Infact it would be pretty cool if someone from Valve could do that, just to show off (and prove me right kthx) lol

Imagine what the next source engine could do. :O

It would own the unreal 3 engine.

Not every game that will on Xbox2 will have the bestest of the best graphics just because its "next gen". Compare Doom3 to some other game released around the same time. Different team, different goals, same limitations...Totally different graphics!.

It still looks good anyway, and will only get better so if its on par with our bestest of the best graphics now...it will be ahead of PC when it does come out. The only games looking to have better graphics than our best now is FEAR, Stalker and Doom3:ROE, which will bring us upto 2nd quarter 2005. I'd be surprised if PC's will be close to console graphics when these new ones come out. UE3 will be the next engine that will out-look next-gen consoles.

true fact

that also hapened to the playstation1, the firsts games looked crap compared to the latest games

IMO the xbox2 will be able to run the UE 3.0, or maybe the PS3

Photorealism!!!

That would be really badass tho if the next source engine could do that.
Well the lighting and shadowing is done so well in Source right now, its already tricked a few people (including me) in some screenshots before now into thinking they were retouched photo's.

Since the next Source version will be the same one just with improvements, I reckon that yeah concerning the landscape atleast, it'll begin to get very close.

But I'd rather them work on upping the map limits first ;)

Eh?Since your the mapper person..somethin..

Whatcha mean by "map limits"?Like size?

Size yeah, and brush and entity limits

Though I'd be happy with a seamless loading (as in it loads the next map in before you reach it so there's no waiting and its instant to the point you don't really even notice the switch) method instead too.

Do you have a screenshot of age of empires 3?

I saw this but it doesnt look like graphics is looks like a painting.

Im lookign forward to AOE3. Im sick and tired of hearing about what the engines can do, all i care about is the gameplay and story.

Aparantly microsoft will make an announcment on christams eve. What a nice christmas present. Maybee it will be more recent like the 1700 or 1800's

That looks like a screen to me.

AOE 3 is supposedly set in the colonial era, ending about the time the US got it's freedom. It's meant to cover every pat of the America continents, from icy tunda to thick jungles.

Oh, I think that's a concept drawing. Although I can pray.

Well if it is a screen shot I think the went overboard with the HDR lighting. I still think it looks a bit cartoony though. Im up in the air on wheter it a screen shot or not. I think it deserves its own thread.

The terrain, as whitezero said has nothing on Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.
The first screenshot turned me the hell off.
On the last screenshot, wtf is the scope not reflecting? Am I seeing something Source can pull off that this game can't ALREADY?

Looks ok, but ive seen better...much better..

Did no one see my post. Those game ss are nothing. Look at the engine tech demos. Its insane. (Still like unreal 3.0 better tho)

I saw the tech demos and thought that they were amazing, especially the mansion one.

There is only one problem I have with the game and that is the shadows cast when you shine a flashlight on an object. Like in Doom 3 and Chronicles of Riddick they look like really thick black outlines rather than a shadow being cast on the surface behind or adjacent to the object. Does anyone know if Unreal 3.0 does the same thing?

UE3 does its shadows like the others in the game (nice looking)
I think

Well that depends how dark the room is to begin with. Doom3 does shadows better than most, its set in a dark enviroment with minimal light source and shadows would, indeed, look exactly how they are in Doom3. I've tested it out using a bright mobile phone and flipping it open and walking around casting shadows on things with little light in the room.... the shadows are pitch black almost.

they wouldn't look exactly like those. Doom's shadows are hard edged regardless of distance, the further the distance the surface the shadow is cast on from the casting object the more its blurred IRL. Doom was made with only hard edged shadows in mind (apart from the projection mapped soft shadow effects)

Though them being black, well yeah if there's no other lights in the area then yeah a shadow is gonna be black obviously :p

Wrong. You guys are setting yourselves up for major disapointment.

Wrong. They will be using graphics cards that won't even be out on the PC at release.

Wheres your source?

Exactly, consoles will never ever ever EVER top a PC.
