An update released to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive yesterday evening has added improved Twitch.TV connectivity which now makes finding and spectating games on the platform significantly easier.

The new functionality allows Twitch streamers to display their current matchmaking rank and map as part of their channel details. By simply clicking on the "Rank" drop down box or the "Map" picture links atop the regular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive directory, spectators can easily fine tune their search as they try to find players or game experiences they will enjoy viewing.

The new search parameters are linked directly to the player's CS:GO game via a connection between Steam and Twitch which was set up last July. The service was previously limited to allowing players to find item drops for Dota 2 and CS:GO while spectating officially broadcast games while outside the game clients. In a statement to OnGamers, the Twitch team discussed the potential future implications of features such as this.
"Dota 2 is an obvious choice because of Valve's co-operation and existing account connection infrastructure, but there is nothing we can comment on at this time."

We'll have to wait and see if Twitch and Valve plan to implement additional functionality for games such as Dota 2 or Team Fortress 2, as we imagine search parameters such as "Class", "Hero", "Map", and "Gamemode" could suit both these games quite nicely. As the only game publisher with a connection system built into Twitch.TV, this really is uncharted territory that definitely has a lot of untapped potential.
If you were wondering about what else was added in yesterday's update, be sure to check out the official changelog, which includes various map tweaks for Cobblestone and Overpass alongside some bug fixes and a matchmaking rule change. A new blog post has also detailed the recent changes to both the Twitch compatibility and the new "Advanced Search" feature added to the Steam Marketplace.
