I know there are a lot of threads on this problem in the steam forums, but I have yet to see a fix that works.

I'm getting random crashes either to the desktop or forcing me to restart, sometimes I get the message seen in the attachment.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Please?

Cant read memory is often because of to much tweaking, and not knowing exacly what you are doing... Also several other things can cause memory error, for example deleting the original console bind. I think the best way for you to solve this is to keep your CSS cache file, and Uninstall Steam... then reset your settings in regedit if you changed any. Also search in regedit for the word Valve and delete Those that you clearly can see has to do with Steam and Valve. Not any other values.

And if your not familiar with regedit....DON`T TOUCH IT. Let your l33t paal do it for you ;)

Then reinstall Steam using your CS:S cache...and try the game again...

If same problems occur without having messed with cfgs and settings in CSS... I can´t help you. Sorry...

Go spank the person who built your computer.

Uhhh, I haven't made any changes.

It did this the first time I played it. :(

/me spanks myself
(btw, this is the only game that does this)

I have exactly the same error, in every detail you have described.

My setup is :

3.0Ghz HT Intel 4
1gb of Ram
AIW Radeon 9600 Pro
Windows Xp

I aso dont have any console bind, how do I restore it?

for the console, go to options, keyboard, and avanced.

oh, my specs: (I don't think this has much to do with the prob)

Athlon 2700+
geForce 4 mx440 (hope to get a new one soon ;))
512 ram
xp pro

I get the same error every 10 mins, I haven't fiddled with anything other than the ingame options..

I've heard it got something to do with your ram when you get the memory could not be read error. maybie your ram is ****ed? :|

Memtest comes up with no errors :|

I think I might have fixed it with this post. I haven't played it enough since then to tell, but hopefully :)
