CS:S Custom map question

As most of you most likely notice if you play CS:S is that manynew maps have recently been released, but they are all unofficial maps made by a hacked version of a map editor.

My question is, is it legal to use these maps? like could VALVe ban my account for using it? or am i being paranoid

I've done so and haven't been banned. It's just stupid because they're just original CS maps with new water from the VST.

yeah so far i havent been banned either

the reason i bring this up is because of the post on the steampowered forums that says how they want a "controlled beta". Also ive seen posts in other forums saying things like how VALVe is trying to shut down the mappers who made the maps because they are using the hacked version of the mapping program

im starting to think i am paranoid lol
