Well as the title says it, my CS:S freezes once in a while, but not permanently, freezes only for like 10-15 secs and then the game goes on, but most of the time i get kicked because the freeze causes my ping to go up into the 1000's. Also if i play a map twice in a row i get purple and black boxes, would that be solved by the verify thing? Thx.
My specs are:
P4 [email protected]@1.725v
ASUS P4C800 Deluxe MB
1024MB PC4000 RAM
2x160GB Maxtor 7200 RPM 8mb Cache HDs
Gigabyte X800XTPE@600/1250
25mbps ADSL2+
Game Theater XP sound system
600W PSU

im no expert, but it could be instability due to your overclock

Don't think so, i've been runnin in OC for like half a year, no other games do this, besides, my voltage is under the limit (1.75), if i raise it to 1.75 for stability issues it actually gives me blue screens every half an hour. The freezes still happen.
Thx for the reply.

well just to make sure, run at stock speeds. your other games probably wont do this sine the source engine demands more on ur CPU than others. try it and see, it might be it might not be

Forgot to mention i tried runnin at stock speeds too, does the same :| and i think the F.E.A.R. Beta on max stresses CPU more then this, might be wrong but that game doesn't ever freeze.
I'll try again.

agh....
didn't solve anything, as i suspected, even tried to put everything at slowest possible, put like 100 on fsb and 3-5-5-8 latencies on my memory, still freezes but with all that it lagged in addition...

hows the hard drive, defragged? check ur page file. check for virus / spy/adbots. even the virus gaurd might be causing slowdowns, but thats unlikely. are you running in RAID, and do u possible mean Maxtor hard drives?

Both HD's are defragged, page file is clean (use a cleaning tool every day) scanned both drives with Norton AV 2005 yesterday and found no viruses with latest definitions, ad-ware se personal and spybot s&d didn't find anythin either. And yea, that was a typing error, they're both maxtors, dunno what i was thinkin, lol. Cables are very messy in case but temp stays at 26-30 on idle and 36-40 on burn (processor), my gfx card stays in the 30-40 temps range (i'm talkin in celcius).

go to steam settings then <internet< then go put connection to T1 and click ok. I was lagging and Chris_D told me to do that and i did and it worked, Thanks Chris_D

also set the heapsize to 512000.
and u probably said Matrox cuz that is some graphics card make, no worries

i thought settin the connection to something higher would lag you more, as it basically increases the rates. on gamesl ike UT i found that lowering them improved performance

Its strange that your ping gets that high on your internet connection, makes me think that its more a software issue than a hardware issue, if you don't experience any problems in other games then its definitely something to do with the game files / software running on your pc. I am also having problems with steam causing my internet connection to drop, it seems that certain setups don't go well with steam and the games it uses. Have you tried the verifier utility yet?

thx for the replies.
I'd just like to know if heapsize is half your RAM or VRAM?
Settin it to T1 wouldn't do much cause i customely configged my rates, normally when it doesn't freeze i get a ping of around 6-18.
I'll try the heapsize 512000 thing.

Changing heapsize to 512000 did help, now i'm gettin 80-120 fps constant :) . Thx for the help everybody. Loading time depends on the speed of your HD, right?

You're going to kill your CPU through slow degration at those volts. It will start happening sooner or later. An intel cannot take volts like an AMD can. If you're going to OC an intel, keep the volts stock. I have the exact same OC as you, except I have 1.55 volts.

*Edit*

And I also get this freezing problem.

and since were on about loadin times, il ask:
does unpacking the .gcf files help at all with loading times, same iwht the .pak files. if so, where to unpack them to

Secret i think you've got a Prescott, mines Northwood. If i put the voltage to lower than 1.675 then windows doesn't even start on 235 Mhz FSB (3.52Ghz). Don't think unpacking the GCFs helps loading times, does it? Since the last patch i get 5-20 sec loading times on CSS :). By the way, about me killin my processor, if this one dies i'll just get a newer one, i'm still on socket 478. For some wierd reason my RAM blocks my overclock, at max timings doesn't want to start at higher then 255 no matter what the voltage is, when i set it to work in 333mhz mode it loads up to 265 mhz FSB...
