CS:S HUD Bug

I just installed CS:S and the HUD, instead of having icons for guns and health, has random letters. This may sound weird, but look at the screenshot. I have a feeling the icons for all the HUD stuff are not there.. so it replaces them with weird letters.. any ideas on how to fix this?

Aztec eh? Must have missed that map coming into the beta....

that looks like some homemade aztec...
 
It's cause you downloaded the uncertified maps.....What you have to do is go into the game, start it up and when it running press f10 that should set everything in default mode. But you have to be in a game. Thats f10...Good luck hope it fixes your problem....
 
hl2 uses font files for the hud icons, so i think it has something to do with that, it happened at my cousins house too and he didnt have a single custom map, f10 will mess up your game dont do it
 
So.. I guess this means I need to find the font file.. anyone know where I could find it?
 
Delete the css content and redownload.. seems like something didn't get downloaded the first time.
 
Yeah, the fonts are switched.
they are located here in ..\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\accountname\counter-strike source beta\cstrike\resource

filenames:
cs.ttf
csd.ttf
CSlogo.ttf
Cstrike.ttf
 
I honestly do not understand why you people actually help this guy. He's been downloading illegal maps & practically admitted by posting a picture of him doing so.

It may be a lame thing to do, but I'll report this :p
 
Alec, are you serious? Just because the guy wants to play a different map than dust means you should just shun him away. That's really immature. You won't get far with that attitude.
 
Anyways, I already tried redownloading CS:S and it did the same thing.. The only file in the resource folder is the icon file for CS.

Is anyone nice enought to zip up those font files and contact me? :)

Like I said, I'll make a .rar of those files. If someone would like to host it for me, that would be nice..

I don't think it's immature to respect the forum rules.

These maps were made with tools that were part of the binaries/source stolen from Valve.

Anyways, it seems mighty odd that the original poster wouldn't just re-download the content. Plus, if Steam really fed corrupted or missing files to his cache, that's something that should be reported to Valve.

My guess is that it's the cracked beta.

It's the original poster who may not "get far". Alec_85 didn't do anything wrong.
 
People: this topic has nothing to do with downloading 'illegal' maps... the problem has nothing to do with it. So please stop acting as the Holy Samaritan.
 
OK...just because i have posted here and have the same problem i got mixed up in this...but let me tell u this....i didn't do anything...i downloaded cs:source and had this problem from the begining....so it is possible to do nothing and still have this problem...with me its that it DID NOT DOWNLOAD THOSE 4 FILES IN THE RESOURCES FOLDER.....so shut up with all your complaning and get a freaking life....people DO have problems that aren't related to cheating and hacking....so if u dont have a solution for the problem just dont post....

The comment is that the original poster broke the rules. I happen to respect these forums and their rules.

Being an incredibly rude ass is also against the rules :).

The statement from the Steampowered boards doesn't change the fact that the original poster got the bug from downloading & playing an illegal map. Which he has clearly admitted to have done (even if he didn't know it was illegal) by posting screens of the map in question (of himself playing) & with a filename that has the same name as the map which is the general way for Steam to name their files. AND saying that he did download it.

But it seems the mods have either not seen the thread nor my report or they don't agree with me ;( ;) I'm not saying that this guy should be banned for this small misstep. Just a lock?

Edit: Also, didn't he say that the bug first occured after downloading the new map? That's the base for getting this bug in this case.

2nd Edit: Well it seems the problem has been solved too. That's good at least.

...How in the hell do you figure that? I've played the "illegal" maps, and I have no problems. He didn't say it started when he played that map, he just said that the HUD was messed up. Would your opinion of been different if it was de_dust?
 
actually, the bug had nothing to do with the downloaded maps. It was like that before, right when I got CS:S... :p

If i had just taking the screenshot in dust, there wouldn't have been an argument :frown:

And I was about to upload the files but I guess razvan already got them :)

Yes it would probably be different since then he wouldn't have broken the CS:S BETA rules (I'm not 100% certain it says you can't play other maps though.) since this whining of mine is not related to the bug but the fact that he played with illegal content. If he hadn't mentioned those maps I wouldn't have anything to whine about would I?

But on second thought, if these maps are so bad, how come Valve haven't closed down the servers running them eh?

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood today :E Would be sweet justice if I too got this bug right? ;)
 
Most of those maps ARE bad, except for bada_aztec. It's a REALLY nice map... Has the fancy water and everything...
 
guys ... adding those files to my cstrike folder didnt fix it ;(
