CS:S playable only on LAN?

That means while the single-player campaign of Half-Life 2 won't be available for potentially months, the full multiplayer component (which has been available in beta form) will be sparking LAN battles next week.

The above quote came from the recent news article over at Gamespot. My question is: Will people be able to run servers for net play or just Local Area Networks? I was going to wait for retail but if I can play CS:S next week, I'm going to go with Steam but only if I can set up a server for internet play. Thanks

when i had 3 posts, i knew that CS: S was being beta tested online.
