CS:S update = rc bugs?

If they're updating stuff to CS:S that potentially affects the Source engine over all, I wonder if that means they are bug fixes from the submitted RC? Seems logical.

Yes, but this is the first update since we know they pushed a RC to the publisher. If the fixes are just to CS:S and not the Source engine (i.e. it affects HL2), fine. But if they are pushing fixes to Source on the CS:S beta, one has to assume those bugs exist in the RC.

Yeah, seems logical to me too. I hope they won't find any more bugs :(

This is probably the updates they made to the second rc, meaning the first one failed..

but it might just be bugs is cs:s and not in hl2..

Some of the updates might be but this one doesn't seem like it to me:

Improved DX7 graphics code path performance by up
to 225%.

An increase in performance of that level seems to me like something that they would have known about for a long time and would be something that Valve would not have wanted the final game to still have a problem with if the first RC was accepted.

Also...

Fixed a problem where the game would crash when run on Win98 with a nVidia 5900, 5950, or 6800.

That just *sounds* like the kind of bug a publisher QA group would find.

sounds to me like while they were testing the rc on lots of various comps with differnt configs they found that dx 7 played horrible..

Ok, but would theses be considered "major" bugs? I believe as long as Half-Life 2 the game is free of major bugs, it will be fine. They have been updating CS ever since it came out in 1999.

Yes. But my main point is that HL2 RC1 probably didn't get accepted. I wasn't really referring to CS:S directly. Whatever.. it's already moved.

These updates could also be the changes of the period between the last CS:S update and the RC being sent to VUG. So these changes were already incorporated in the RC but not yet available for the public.

And CS:S was also in the RC, not just HL2.

I am 99% certain they had already known about performance of DX7 before they sent the first RC. It just wasn't something that needed to be fixed until the last minute.

I also think it is an update that puts cs:s to a comparable version of the one sent as an RC, and not an update based on bugs found by VU, also I don't think we'll know about the gold announcment until a few days have passed so they can see if the distribution a reproduction procces goes well they can set a release date.

There's 3 different release candidates.

It's possible that Half-Life 2 was accepted, but Counter-Strike: Source wasn't.

Well Chris has a point... but any of these theories could be right.

I'd just like to hear a gold announcement and a SOLID release date from VU.

i don't think that CS:S passed, and maybe that's why yesterday the moved the hl2.php?move=gold post...it's funny that every time before there was a preload, we have received either binks or a test or something... then we got this update last might for CS:S. personally, because there are alot of video options there that weren't there before, that it was just an update to bring the BETA up to the level of the RC. This would explain the optimization that were present....you don't actually think that they would submit a RC when they know that the game does not work or 3 pretty damn popular cards, now would ya?

maybe it's both reasons...who knows?
we just have to wait and see.

i think the first rc failed and VALVe are just letting us play the cs:s beta longer while they get another sent so to keep us happy they updated the beta to make it play better

We got an awful lot of data for a small update to a 2nd RC level -

Which leads me to believe that they updated us with the whole of CS:S, for the reason that the RC was accepted - and so they have given us a finalised version to mess with:)

It's the first update we've had since before the RC was sent, so I wouldn't expect it's got anything to do with a 2nd RC.

Again tho- it's all wild speculation till we get some official word...

Just think logical. If CS:S is released and the beta will be finished, there will be the files from the last update in this RC. So, CS:S is an only online playing game and you'll just have to download missing files, if there is another update for example, via Steam not like CS:CZ, because it isn't mean to played in SP mode. Did you also noticed the update was very huge? The "Disk Usage" shows 889mb. I also noticed that there are many files in this update, if you open the .gcf file. For example: There are already folders like de_aztec, de_cbble in the texture folder (materials). So I guess the RC will just contain the maps.
