I dont understand all the fuss about the CS:S beta. should it not be something completely unrelated to hl2? they say the beta will help find bugs in the engine, shouldnt bugs of that kind be ironed out a long time ago.

I increasingly have the feeling that CS:S HL:S etc are delaying the game even urther. earlier I was told that CS:S is being made by a different team. in that case why is so much of the launch of half life 2 resting upon it?

and I'm slowly beginning to turn into a really disgruntled fan.

the fact remains a lot of the things people from valve have been telling us have been a bunch of lies. to know that they still do not have a RC is shocking.

maybe they should have just shut up like Id. the fact remains that every single date we have been given till now has turned out to be long. the preload was delayed, so has everything else to do with hl2.

can we believe that valve could have brought out the game in holidays last year if the leak hadnt happened? I think not. they have already admitted that it oculd not have sep 30 , 2003. people say they did a lot of it to give publicity to ATI. and valve's promotion of ATI and Nvidia bashing was uncalled for, especially when they based their judgements on the performance of a game that was more than an year from release.

now how many of us think there is any hope of the game coming in october. we've already hadto give up on september.
will it even come out this year. I think I'll stop waiting now, and enjoy the many other awesome games that have come, on time like sims 2, rome total war, doom iii etc. if and when hl2 comes out I hope itll be a pleasant surprise.

CS:S is bundled with HL2.

Many bugs with CS:S are Source related bugs, while the majority are game specific.

AFAIK, CS:S isn't holding up HL2, as VALVe has yet to say anything on the matter. It could be, but it's not likely. Past Source bugs, that is.

I'm pretty sure the guys who made the orignal cs mod where hired by valve due to its success but I'm not sure

so yes they work together

Well the fact is that it would be impossible to expect anybody to develop a game that works smoothly on all configurations of hardware, all different types of hardware etc.

For example, there was a bug with the phyiscs system that crashed the engine. I personally never got affected by that bug, which means it must have been a certain system set up that caused it. If that kinda bug was left in, then the people who the bug was affecting would have been mightily pissed off that every 10 minutes their game crashes because of some sort of engine incompatibility with their hardware.

The CS:S beta isn't there for us to test CS:S as a game, it's more there for them to make sure the Source engine is as stable as possible. You may be turning into a disgruntled fan now, but if Valve had released the game without thorough testing, you'd be even more disgruntled if HL2 was unplayable for you.

I've come to the conclusion that people just aren't happy or grateful with anything and it's quite sad really.

They're trying to please everyone and make the final release a smooth one to keep everyone happy.

Moaning about all of this stuff won't change anything.

And Valve will be licensing the source engine out to other games therefore it must be as perfect as possible in terms of compatibility.

THIS is the reason. Not necessarily for our sake.

I am almost damn sure that 50% of the reason developers send a release CANDIDATE out to publishers is because its a CANDIDATE.

Correct me if Im wrong (which i may be) but isnt it a big chunk of the publishers responsibility to find bugs as well? Spend the money on product testing?

Really...what I think this is about...is Valve doesnt want to release an engine to potential licencsers with bugs. It isnt about the consumer. Wake up. Theres a reason they boast Steam so much and its incredible 'quick patch' abilities. So when we get a somewhat buggy product...it can be fixed painlessly.

They want the game out the door, no doubt about that. But they dont want to taint source which is really where theyre hoping to make the big $$

Its not all about us.

....

Not that theres anything wrong with wanting to make money..right?
