As the title says I recently purchased the Gold package via Steam and downloaded CS:Source. Upon first launching it I played for several hours just fine and then all of a sudden my video crashed (screen goes to 25x25-ish pixel boxes of the current map). When this happen I get a VPU pop-up box from my ATI Video card saying hardware rendering has stopped and I am now in software rendering mode, and if I want to go back to harware rendering I need to restart.
So, I restart and go back into CS:S and as soon as the map finishes loading or I start the stress test the same thing happens. I get the popup box to email ATI the error message yada, yada yada... Now, one might think that it is my video card, but I have no problems playing other graphics intensive games out there Like Doom III, Halo and SWG.
When I first installed CS:S I was running the Catalyst 4.1 Beta Drivers, and I upgraded after the first crash to 4.1 non-beta Drivers. I am running the latest Direct X (9.0C), and Windows XP SP2 as the Catalyst drivers recommend. Below are my system Specs:
3.0GHz P4
1Gb PC3200 RAM
80Gb Raid Array
ATI 9800Pro 256
SB Audigy Platinum
----------------------------------------------------
Since the initial crash I have taken the following steps to remedy the problem.
01. Used a Catalyst Uninstall Tool to uninstall all drivers.
02. Installed latest Omega Drivers
03. Uninstalled SP2
04. Cleaned Up Registry Of All SP2 References
05. Uninstalled Steam & Deleted Directory
06. Installed Steam & Re-Downloaded CS: Source
07. Installed An Exhaust fan above graphics card
08. Installed Graphics Card Cooler
09. Disabled VPU Recovery
I took all these steps and now I can't even get into the game... I get the "unable to init shader system" message.
Anyone have any ideas? All help is appreciated.
