CS:Source fails to load.

I recently one of the HL2 packages through steam, and downloaded CS:Source. Getting ready to bask in CS:S goodness I started it up. My PC locked up at a connecting to server screen, after I reset my pc I tried CS:S again. This time the box with 'Prepareing to play Counter-Strike:Source..." after about 30-45 seconds the box dissapears like normal when you start a game, but a dos prompt window opens with the path name to hl2.exe opens and closes after about 2 seconds, leaving me at desktop. No text of any kind is displayed in the dos prompt window. Steam continues to work, and I can open and play other games before and after trying CS:S, but after trying CS:S(providing I havent closed and re-opened Steam), any game I connect to I ping higher than normal in and after about 5 mins, my internet connection goes down. I tried to delete game files in the properties for CS:S and re-download, but I still get the same problem.

My hardware setup is
Athlon XP 2200+
1 Gig of Kingston Hyper-X RAM
ASUS A7V8X-X MOBO
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 Ultra

I sent off a Support Ticket to steam a few days ago, but have not yet recieved a reply, so any help is appreciated.

I have got "exact" same problem..anyone come up with a fix?

Try reinstalling Steam.

I found a fix for this problem for me.

The problem was my GCF and cache files were corrupt!

I had moved my GCF files into my steam folder when steam was on!

You have to make sure steam is NOT running, and you have to close it via process tab.

if you downloaded it you need to re-download or get teh GCF from a friend.

You can tell cause your HL2.exe will look like a dos box instead of a normal icon.l
