Who still plays it? You any good? I'm not, and I've only just started. I'm wondering, have you got any particular tips and pointers for me?

Also, I know that some of the community is crap, but I've had some very tense and fun games. It's not all over for CS, and I'm looking forward to CS2 :)

(oh, and one CS is enough, thank you mod makers)

If yes I'd say I suck; I got owned at a LAN gaming area and started to play Jedi Outcast which is way better than Jedi Academy and Cs.
 
CS.......2? im going to ignore that...
i occasionally play CS, but i have a "pro" freind called Dancemag (who kind of introduced me to Online gaming) who is in a CS clan called vLr`. theyre IRC channel is #vlr! by the way. Anyway, you could allways talk to him- im sure hed play a game with you and tell you how to play. IMO, cs is a great mod but people take it too far...
 
Yeah, I know, I've had bad experiences and good ones. It seems theres a nice, older userbase around, who seem more helpful :)
 
I occasionally play CS as well, but I've always preferred TFC and Half Life DM (much to the amusement of CS players at the few LANs I've been to).

I used to be quite good at CS, but now I tend to get one kill for one death. One tip I would give you is to listen for footsteps running around. I know that seems obvious, but after I finally started paying attention to them I could locate enemies and get ready to kill them long before I saw them.
 
Yeah, I try that, but people seem to shoot me before they can see me ;(

I do listen out, it seems to work, I've sneaked up on people before. I've been top of my team for a few rounds once. But usually I get about 6 kills an hour :E

listening for people is called "tracking", and its not just useful- its essential. You must also mainly use rifles- theyre the best guns. If youre a terrorist buy an AK and a CT buy an M4- my personal preference. If your feeling like sniping, get a scout- then as soon as you get the money- get an AWP- theyre expensive though.

Also, try to team up with people- dont go solo. Me and dance (im shit compared to him) team up in a two on public servers sometimes- i have a rifle and he has an AWP. Then we can take out people one by one from a distance, and i can take out a person if they ambush us at close range.

Another tip, probally the best pistol is the desert eagle. get one EVERY time you buy a sniper rifle (if you have the money) and switch between them with "Q". that way you can switch between sniper and pistol with a button click.

and dont be afraid to scavange! on public i allways team up with a guy that has a gun i want at the start, and if i accidently fall into cover when he is getting shot thats his probem... and i get a gun. may not be the best way to get a gun but its allways worth a try if u dont care for your reputation :D

I generally disagree with suicide's post. If you're new at CS, I'd suggest sticking to the MP5 and moving onto m4/ak when you're proficient with the MP5. But yeah, DE/AWP and lastinv are the best combination, the trick also works if you're carrying a silenced colt and a deagle

I've been playing CS for 4 years now, played in many a clan, and am generally sick of it, but I keep going back.. lol
 
I've never had a problem with CS, other than it differs from my own tastes. I prefer something more complex and on a larger scale.
 
I have been playing CS pretty consistantly since around beta 5, and I have developed into a pretty decent player. :)

I'm not in a clan anymore and have only played one season of CAL-O, but I enjoy scrimming/pugging when I have the time and feel that I am a solid CAL-IM or better player. Pubbing is fun, but it gets annoying when many "lesser" players are constantly accusing me of cheating. Guess that just comes with the territory.

You guys should post some servers you play at (preferably east) and the names you use. I'll try to stop by if I ever see anyone playing.
 
I have no home server really.. I used to, but it died. It's back up now, but it's not popular =(

I generally play on e-frag (when they don't notice that I'm from halflife2.net :) [If they do, I get kicked pretty fast ;( ] ) or any server thats running Assault or Italy with a low ping. I use ComradeBadger as my nick :)
 
I used to play, and was rather damn good if I don't mind saying so myself :p

But it just got boring after a while, so I moved onto better things like DoD and Sven Coop. Now they're on Steam, I suppose I should download them all again and play a bit.
 
I can't stand WW2 or Sven Co-Op. No offence to the creators, but the maps really need a lot of thought, overreliance on Duck-Jumping and other boring features. I was hoping to be able to play through HL again, with my mates. Sadly, no, I'm treated to Robo-Grunts (wtf?) and other random bollocks. I'm going to try NS soon though :)

NS is really fun- mind you, ive only played it on LAN with my mates. have u pld COD? WWII action which is very similar to CS. sure, u have to pay for it but the MP mode doesnt need a disc to play- so if u know a mate who owns it, install it on your system.
 
I hate CoD. I really do. It's just so tightly scripted, I feel it's a step in the wrong direction.
 
Tell me when you intend to download and play NS badger. I will gladly download and play with you. Its a great game that is underappreciated by the majority.

I used to play ALOT but havn't got the steam version. I will teach you the basics as well (As long as they havn't changed too much) because it can be confusing at first.
