Alright. I noticed that another person posted about a demo viewer, but infact it contained a virus. Well, good luck fellas! I have a demo viewer that is compatible with ANY .dem file. I have continuously used this myself ( scanned to ensure no viruses were installed ), and I am very happy with the results. With this program you can fix your demos to where it'll remove hud, fps, text, and more :)

I hosted it on my own website, and I have 40 GIGs of bandwidth, so I don't think that will become a concern ( Server is in america, btw )

//Note - The program installation is in German, but you can install it easily if you install other programs frequently. I myself could easily manage, so I don't believe you will have a problem.

It works for Source.

I prefer Rewelator for 1.6. Apparently they couldn't get it working for Source, yet. But there's a new version out.

Some notes about CSE, this really isn't the end-all tool for CS:S movies. All the "hide hud" option does is use cl_drawhud 0, which removes the crosshair and death notices, so I'd advise not selecting that. There's an app called HUDtweaker that you can remove all the items you don't want, or move them around.

IMHO, it's just easier to use a custom hud and config and launch Source yourself and hit shift + F2 to load the demo. But for the complete novice who might not even know what a config file is, this will be a good tool to have.

I put some of the readme into babel fish to translate it, needless to say, that didn't help much. I guess you hold F9 to capture a movie? And release it to stop? I'm just wondering if you start another capture if it will overwrite the first.

Fragalishus :

Yes, this is for the complete novices such as myself ^ Guilty :D ^.. the 'F9 button pushing' applies to the default configuration for FRAPS, a video recording program ( I'm quite sure you have heard of it ). You can change this with a few option tweaks at the bottom of the application.

ahh i see. then as i assumed the "starmovie" check box must convert the entire demo to .tga's. eek.

I believe so, it was my mistake for not adding this into the post that CSE Demoplayer isn't an all-in-one program, my appologies :)

Yeah, it's a start tho anyway. In the past the demos had to be placed in the cstrike folder, and apps like these helped where you could launch them from your desktop. But with Source's demoui, not really an issue these days, as you can browse with it.

The good thing about Rewelator is that it could "fix" some protocol issues with older demos, and a few other bug problems like removing the scoreboard. Again, not an issue with Source now, tho.

I may sign up at CSE's site and give a few suggestions. Or see if the guys who made the INpactHudtweaker can get together and combine both apps into one. Should be fairly straightforward. Just have an options tab for the HUD for the items you want to remove, then when you launch the demo the app creates the custom hudlayout.res files for you, then deletes it when you exit so you can go play again with a normal HUD. Or maybe just creates it in memory, if that's possible. I personally couldn't code my way out of a paper bag but I assume it should be.

You could theoretically make the app create a custom autoexec as well for movie making, then again in options select a key to start and stop capturing, and just have aliases do the rest.

Fragalishus, if you could make a handy movie making tutorial ( Doesn't have to be large, just show how to create the autoexec [what commands/binds are in there], and other procedures ) and post it, that'd be really great because sometimes I find myself lost while trying to make clips. I myself use FRAPS, but I heard using startmovie [name] 30(fps) creates better quality of images. Thanks :D Respond asap :p

Temp site right now, only forums. But the new version of the site will be released shortly. Had some DB problems. There's a few of the old video tutorials, but myself and some others will be re-doing alot of them and I'm certainly doing one for Source that will cover everything, or at least how I do it so you can take what you want from it and modify it or come up with your own way.

And if anyone else wants to share their knowledge, there's a video tutorial on how to make a good video tutorial, high quality while keeping the file size low.

I'll be re-doing the demo smoother tut. as well. Try and make it shorter and just give a basic step by step, but I did talk about some binds and stuff in there. I was still learning it myself when I made that so...

-edit- oh and I talked to the guys about CSEDemoplayer. They're way ahead of me. Don't know if they're going to work in the custom HUD's for Source like I suggested, but they already have the next version set up to run a custom config, and windowed mode support for widescreen.

And the movie making is already as it should be. If you select Fraps then you just hit F9 as normal. If you select startmovie, it will ask you to configure the fps speeds for normal, 1/2, and 1/4 speeds. just make them all 30. Then you hold F9 down to capture frames, and release it to stop capturing. They were way ahead of me on that one, it doesn't convert the entire demo like I thought.
