Hi all,
I just recently got a new system with the following specs:

AMD X2 4200+
Asus A8R32 MVP Deluxe Mobo
Geforce 7900GTX
2GB RAM
300GB HD

All my newest games run perfect, however CS:S and CS do not! I have read about problems with AMD dual core systems before, however while these people have similar systems to me, they describe a full system freeze which requires a hard restart. My problem is different:

for CS: Whenever i play CS 1.6, either on my own server, another server, or watching a demo, it randomly disconnects me after 10-15 minutes of play with various messages, sometimes "Client Timeout" sometimes "Connection lost while server changed level" and sometimes "Steam ID invalid"/"cannot connect to Steam servers". This is utter bullshit!? How can i timeout from my own server? The levels arent changing, and i havent logged into steam on any other accounts. My account cant be hacked because CS works fine on my older computer. The thing is, the game runs fine, plenty of fps, it just randomly drops me to the menu every 10 minutes. Very frustrating!

for CSS: CS Source is even worse. Whenever i run the game, it stutters/freezes/skips/whatever every 5-10 seconds, EVEN IN THE MENU! What the hell? Most annoying of all: between the skips i get an incredibly good performance ie 200+ fps with all settings maxed out! I checked net graph and im not experiencing any fps drops or choke/loss, just these freezes. Of course it makes the game completely unplayable.

So please help me! What can i do to fix these problems? Ive tried validating the GCF files, reinstalling steam etc.. I have the latest drivers for my video card, mobo, processor etc.. The only thing that is slightly relevant to what i could find in other threads is something about sound cards.. ie mine is built into the mobo, could that be a problem? Do i need a seperate sound card?

PLEASE HELP AND THANKS FOR READING

Do you also have the latest drivers for your sound card? And are all the required ports for HL2 (and its mods) correctly forwarded? (Link)

ok now this is strange i have the same problem and so does some dude, and guess what we ALL have asus a8r32 mvp mobos.
I have a feeling that may be the cause
cus i max out hl2 ep 1 with my 4400 x1900gt and 1 gig ocz ram
did you find a solution?

Yeah, i have the same mobo and the same problem! randomly teh game freezes and he sound goes into a loop, the stops, but just for ten seconds or so, and then again.

Please, this is so sad, we cant play anygame related to HL2!

Well, tha problem is that its not a fact of performance, it's about being playable, or not. So what does mean "improvement"? Does it mean that i will be able to play ten more minutes than usually i do?

Ths first time i launched the game it just took two minutes at menu, two minutes, at medium sound quality to freeze.

And im running it with a amd doublr core 4400, 1900 xt, and 2 Gb of RAM, the mobo is mentioned before.

Hello there. I found this thread by searching on google ASUS MVP Deluxe and CS 1.6 and guess what, I've found exactly the same problems in this thread as elsewhere. I'm so annoyed at the moment with my motherboard it's unbelievable. CS 1.6 is one of the games I really enjoy playing.

Has anyone found a solution yet for this very irritating bug? I cannot keep playing it for 3 minute bouts, it's doing my head and score in!
