So I have a 4x AGP slot...what to do?

1) Buy a 4x AGP card and use that.
2) Buy a 8x AGP card which won't be fully effective (I think thats what happens in a 4x slot right?)
3) Buy a new mobo with a 8x AGP slot and use that with an 8x AGP card.

I'm not sure which to do, I mean I know the last one would be the best, but it's not as cost effective and is more hassle.

For the moment I'm sticking with the crap card I have now, so should I save up for option 3? Your views please.

I would go with choice #2, the performance difference is very unnoticable, so you won't be missing out on much.

What gfx card are you looking at?
If it's a 9800 pro/6600GT or less then I would stick with the 4x Motherboard.

If you were thinking X800 or 6800 and higher then get PCI-Express...if thats an option for you.

6600, not GT. There kind of cheap right? £60-£80? I keep forgetting about VAT. :o

If you are looking for something in that price range and want to use your vid card at its full power then you can go with the 9800Pro, it will perform a bit better than the 6600 for the same price.

Yeh I recommend the 9800pro, especially this one: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/9700_to_9800_Series.html#agx_2d006_2dht

Its teh HIS Excalibur IceQ model so it will run cool so you can overclock it if you want, and it will also be quiet. its a great offer for £82 as you get the big quiet cooler with it too.

EDIT: If you can wait and save up alittle more, then I would go for teh AGP version of the 6600gt as it performs better than teh slightly dated 9800pro. Its alittle more expensive, but it will perform better.

i would go with 6600 over 9800xt because 6600 has more features

Why do you compare it to the 9800XT? The XT isn't worth the money since the PRO costs alot less and can perform as good as the XT if overclocked.

What features the 6600 has that the 9800PRO don't have and would be usefull for the common human being?

Actually, the 6600 has to be the GT version if you have AGP because there is no standard 6600 for AGP.

Ah ok. Probably go for the 9800pro then, but I'm not into overclocking so how overclockable it is doesn't really bother me. But quiet sounds good.

Good choice, also the 9800PRO might produce more heat than your previous vid card so make sure you have a good airflow in your case and no dust.

Good point Ti1337, although the one they are selling on www.overclockers.co.uk comes with the IceQ cooler so it will run cooler than standard 9800pros and the hot air is directly blown out of teh back of teh case.
