We don't see a great deal of high quality single player modifications for Half-life 2 but the newly release Curse Episodes mod oozes quality. Voted the Most Anticipated Mod for 2008 by ModDB, Curse episodes are set in an Egyptian themed world, fighting against enemies with really enjoyable melee combat.[br]The mod has plenty of action moments (including boss fights) and puzzles to solve. You can download Curse Episode 1 from a selection of mirrors at Moddb. You only require Half-life 2 to play this mod.[br]

Looking good, think ill give it a try...

I couldnt get into it. Maybe it was the combat system, maybe it was the strange puzzle situations. I dont know.

Aside from the fact that it appears to be melee only, the screenies put me in mind of that ancient FPS, Exhumed (which I never got to play myself). Might end up checking this one out just to see...

Just finished it, very very pretty mod. The Egyptian theme is done superbly, the story doesn't really exist...the puzzle solving is more or less the story. Enemy variety was limited too, but I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Different from anything else out there, great job to the development team.

I hope Episode 2 doesn't start where Episode 1 ends, eek!

It's short and sweet although I get the feeling I missed some of the puzzles. In the main menu there's a gameplay video showing you how aware of your surroundings you need to be. Combat is awkward but not at all the main drive. It gave me a proof of concept kinda feeling. Indeed a nice atmosphere.

BUG: loading my last save halfway through the video caused a bug where the video movement inputs from the demo were still being processed - loading a savegame while watching it brakes the game. There's also a few non-hittable monsters every now and then but loading seems to fix most of those.

Nice little mod.

If you finished the game once, you'd better watch the gameplay demo video to ensure you didn't miss anything.

btw, no matter how completely I finished the game, there is still only one ending?

That was great (considering it's work of one person). Level design is full of nicely done loops.

Curse "Episode One"

How long did it take to create the game?
Such that I can estimate the release time of episode two.

I banish all evil and kill the ball of corpses but I still get the same ending as if I just spent 5 minutes running to the end.

You will get bonus stuffs once the last episode comes out, if it ever comes out.

Yeah, this mod is a curse - the curse of bad game design. The architecture and the general aesthetics are excellent - and I particularly love the Egyptian theme - but the actual gameplay is quite appalling in quality. Combat consists of waving your luminous pink dick around in what amounts to glorified zombie-gameplay, and the level design is a wave of relentless loops - there is no design or general thread to the game itself, you simply act, often entirely without reason. Arbitrary design is not to be lauded; why are you people so willing to accept that which is so obviously not good?

Well you may be killing random zombies for no reason by waving around your pink dick, but you got to give it credit for its very good sound design, and atmosperic boss fights. Also the level design is quiet clever and made me replay the mod because I've missed so much on the first pass. IMO the only things missing are better weapon design and a story. I enjoyed it so I think it was good.
