Custom Gordon Freeman action figure

Hey there everyone! I was directed here by some people suggesting I show all of you my new Gordon Freeman custom figure and get some feedback on it. What better critics than Half Life fans right?

The skinny: Playstation the Official Magazine published one of my custom figures (Helghast soldier from the Killzone game) and requested that I make some more. So I went off doing a series called 'Video Game All Stars' and styled them towards an animated theme using GI Joe Sigma 6 figures. They're 8" tall and easier to detail than the smaller Marvel Legends figures.

Fans requested I do Gordon Freeman as one of the figures and translate him into Sigma 6 style. I must of had 100 requests for his character! So last week I hunkered down and created him. Being Half Life players/fans, I'd love to know what you all thought.

Keep in mind that this figure isn't going for 100% in-game-promo-screenshot accuracy. It's Gordon Freeman done 'animated' style like how they did the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise or the Star Wars cartoons. So not every bolt, curve, and hinge of the suit was replicated. My goal was to have you instantly recognize that it's Gordon Freeman without any glaring faults (like purple feet or missing his glasses) and think, "Hmmm, I could see that as being an animated character on TV." If that's the case, let me know! If not, where did I go wrong? Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback!

Why did you post this in two sections?

Oh my God. Jin Saotome just made a Gordon Freeman action figure. This is the part where Darkside commences pants-wetting.

I have to say that I can't find any 'faults' with it, since you were going for a streamlined, cartoonish style. He looks like an iconic version of Gordon Freeman. The scratches you did on the suit are a nice touch.

Also, looking at the Iron Grenadier hands, the raised paneling on the back of the glove where the original figure had red, those sections might actually look good orange. It's inaccurate to the HL2 HEV suit, more in line with the suit from Half-Life 1, but it sort of lends itself to that. I wouldn't do it if these are pieces to be submitted to Playstation Magazine though, because as I said it would be inaccurate to the game. It just struck me as something that could be done to the HEV suit's design and it'd look interesting.

Also, not a fault, but argh, Sigma 6 scale! :p Your Master Chief, and now Gordon Freeman. You need to do them Marvel Legends scale for epic battles against your Marvel guys.

Also, will you be putting this one up for auction? I've been wanting a Gordon Freeman (although in ML scale).

As a side note let me just say that you're an awesome customizer. My friends and I have been getting into customs in the past year or so and a lot of your tutorials have been helpful. Also, one of my friends bought your Deadpool, and it is quite wicked.

Nice to have you on the forum, and excellent piece.

*copies comment from other thread*

Yeah, don't post two identical threads ;)

That's pretty sweet; some Gears of War action figures wouldn't go amiss.

Wow thats some skill. Just why are his abs so much smaller then his chest. Looks like of weird.

Wow at the killzone, solid snake, duke nukem! You got skill man.

Oh man. <glances to the left and to the right>

I don't even remember what Gordon Freeman looks like!

I think he has... glasses... and... hair. And a crowbar grafted to one hand. But that's all I remember. Been so long since I played and, oh wait you don't see him when playing.

gtfo stern!

That's an incredibly cool Gordon figure! That style is awesome, makes the suit look so badass.

shut up Vageta you dont own the internets

anyways, just realised it was first posted by the artist ..nice work btw, didnt mean to rain on your parade

I saw it somewhere else and it wasnt posted by the artist so ...

This is why reading the OP is sometimes a good thing to do :D

Even just the first sentence would do.

I'm guilty of not reading the OP in many threads. More often than not I do though.

I do like Stern's picture. Partly because he didn't make two threads about it.

Why did you post this in two sections?
Because I wasn't sure where it would fit in, didn't see anything that pertained to merchandise. Feel free to have a mod delete whatever one doesn't belong.

Ah, see that's where I was having trouble. I think I used the half life 2 suit model here

HEV_suit.jpg

To model it after because it was the most color-specific shot I could get. I wasn't sure if there were shots of an earlier suit and if there was, I didn't see a difference when scanning through the images. He's up on EBay right now this week if you want a crack at him. He's not ML scale tho, sorry about that! I'll go back to doing ML figures when Hasbro tweaks their later series. That's kinda the reason for the decline in Marvel legends customs recently, the new figs just aren't up to par.

Thanks for the compliments! And I was just going for an anime style, that's why stuff is out of proportion. I used the chest to be the 'bulky suit focus' of the piece. You know how one part of an anime character is always out of proportion, usually the head, feet, hands, etc.

No prob, I use to collect Legos and would probably be customizing them if I had any left!

By all means, kill the other thread. Or this one? I didn't know where to post this and I've had some pretty annoying experiences at other boards. You know, you'll post something and it gets locked or deleted without anyone telling you the right place. And if you ask first you get labled a noob and asked, "Do u liek mudkips?" or whatever meme is popular that minute, heh.

So... where would I post stuff about customs figures? I'm making a Heady the Headcrab too. As you can see nobody's told me the correct forum to post in... only gotten after me for posting in two places. See where I'm coming from?

Sorry for being so harsh :p

Art & Design's normally the place for this kind of thing. If you wanted to know, you could have PMed one of the moderators (which have "Moderator or Admin" under their name).

Nice job on that gordon freeman figure, i think it looks great,
although i think the crowbar was red with silver tips? Only a small thing anyhow

I think its totally awesome other then the part where the legs and torso come together it look a little off.

I saw that custom posted on the Spawn.com boards, freaking awesome! I had hoped he would make a Gordon Freeman too to go along with it.

RJMC, it's basically customizing, taking an existing figure and altering it. You can find a full set of guides that explain the process on my site.

haha awes! :D

the bloodied crowbar is a ****ing awesome addition to the figure. Makes 'ol Gordie look malevolent

Good job mate!
