im not shure if its been discussed or not but what about short levels with all the cut content... weapons, models, chars ect? ~runs off to the bathroom~

I think it'd work.

Or not...

that's a much better idea than the beta actually being released over steam which i've heard so many people suggest...

in my honest opinion i think valve will save the content for mods... why wouldn't they?

well they ciold actually release the content for mods...
It dosent relly metter
It will e in game legally or not

I expect that the very popular demand things (Hydra, Bullsquid, etc.) WILL be in expansion packs, for the sole reason that everybody wants them.

(if the Hydra is not in the Alyx Expack, I will kill myself)

A tad extreme I fear, but if it doesn't work well, then sod it - I can't imagine fighting it anyway.
They'll only include stuff that works; they won't leave stuff out to spite us.

I was just thinking about this. It could be sort of like a director's cut version of HL2. After looking at some things that were cut I can see that some truly did not belong (for example a boat-ride in the beginning sucks compared to the trainstation intro) while other things were cut due to lack of resources. I think that some parts of the game that were cut (I'm kind of guessing them) but would have added more to the SP are:
-Black Mesa East; it's supposed to be a refuge for City17 escapees but when you get there you see only three people and some Vortigaunts. Exploring and interacting a bit would have been more fun and would add to the story
maybe get to know Mossman better so her betrayal is more convincing
-Father Gregori's role in the game; he could stand to be more fleshed out and Ravenholm could have been longer since it's supposed to represent an entire night but is finished in only a couple of hours.
-The rebellion (anticitizen one and follow freeman) could have been bigger and given more a sense of scale, detail and planning (though what we do have is easily the most exciting part of the game). The rebellion is also one of the most important story parts of the game and should get more time in proportion with 'vehicle travelling' time that is less dramatic in contrast (more of Dog would be nice).
-Enemies I would like to have seen particularly are the alien creatures living on earth's wastelands and dried-up oceans. I guess more enemy variety is more fun so whatever can be in would be more fun (prowlers, assassins, stalkers, maybe?-- sticking things that fit the world of course)
-'Simple gameplay' is something that I thought HL2 needed compared to HL1. Simply stumbling into a room with some badguys/wildlife was fun, atmospheric (zombies eating corpses), and challenging (show off some AI abilities). HL2 had very fancy, multi-layered action (set up turret defences while fighting combine from all directions while Alyx is starting up the teleporter to escape) but lacked in simple sequences. I think this is also a good way to extend the playing time to feel a little closer to a 3 day game rather than a quick 20 hours.

There are lots of things that I think would really make a HL2 Director's Cut awesome to have but I wonder how feasible it would be to do.
