The model itself doesn't look bad, but it could use a lot more detail if you want to make it look good in-game. Try adding more detail in the back (ex. screws, aimsights, etc) without using textures.

The technique used does not look very good, and neither do the 32 sided cylinders.

sorry, not impressed at all, needs alot of work...
to basic and bland, I've seen more detail on a hl2 version of the Ak47, and as it's one of my favorite weapons, I like it to be detailed ;( sorry

Well said.

ok first off, just want to say im not any where to being a good modeler. but for finished models, that gun sucks, im not trying to be harsh or anything but it could use alot more detail, and alot more time. Btw how many polies is it. It is also to square.

Ok first Hiro i did say that i suck at modeling. Second when did i say i pirated it? i want the quote or exact text. I dont want any made up crap either. I dont remeber ever saying that i pirated 3DS MAX. I dont like being falsely accused. Makes you look bad.

i will say this once. If you pirate the software "DON"T BE A DUMBASS AND ANNOUNCE TO THE WORLD THAT YOU PIRATED IT!!!" fer christ sakes. would you e-mail gabe and say hey great game but i didn't want to pay for it so i stole it. NO you would not. It's the same mentality here. Please for the love of dinniz do not go into crime for a living your are a piss poor criminal. huzzah.

Btb methinks these are WIP's of the AK not the real deal.

Aye Aye Aye, I never said i pirated it. DID i so quit accusing me of it your the one who is acting dumb and irrational here.

rather than continue flaming you i'm going to stick out my tounge and go back to drinking. Needless to say huzzah

All in all, your renders don't help the model look any better.

nah, you can't get drunk on guiness. You're too full after two to drink anymore. And i have a friend whom i picked up the word huzzah from. He works for Royal Carribean as an Environmental Officer making $52,000 for six months of work and as a Research Scienist for "Woods Hole" in his off time. So your "friend" is not indicitive of the caliber of the persons who use the language.

Anyway while da vinci stealing $10 worth of paint to create a masterpiece is nothing; someone stealing a $3000 piece of software is quite another in the sense that it affects those of us (and few we are)who have legit copies. Or to use your argument. Did that stolen paint cause the price of paint worldwide to skyrocket? Doubtful. And would he have paid the owner of the paint back when he sold his work.

I've seen the stuff aaa has done and for him to criticize someone else in that manner flies in the face of common courtesy. If he had simply said "it looks flat, needs some detail like...." then we would not be having this argument. However he chose to be a dick about it. Did anyone tell him that his models suck? No, the offered constructive criticism regarding the state of his models.

uhhh i'm tired and we'll leave it where it stands.

I used to know some people down at adobe, and they told me that they were very aware of the fact that most families had an illegal copy of photoshop on their computers, but they didn't really care, because they earn enough money from the companies who buy the software and licenses. As long as you're not making any money out of their (illegaly obtained) product, they won't sue or bother you for using it.

I'm quite sure discreet has a similar sort of philosophy on 3Dsmax users.
I'm sure not everyone has 3000$ to spend on software they don't even know how to use yet.

i have the propper retail version, unpirated :cheese:

anyway, can you please stop spamming and get back to the point of the matter...

right, looking at it, i think my main concern is that the stock, the Hand-grip bit, and the middle all seem to be one item, and it you look at the actual weapon they aren't...

First, I would like to thank a lot of people for their unconstructive comments. If you can't reply in a normal fashion, then don't

Secondly. The ones that did gave comments, thanks. I'll add some more detail.

ankalar> can you give me another way of making a barrel. Which btw does not have 32 sides.

Stone> the models does constist of seperate parts, it's just not visible now because everything has the same color.

well, if you can do it without going over a stupid poly limit, do it is what i say...why not put in extra sides, it you can, it makes it look smoother...although i think those extra polies should be put into the stock and the hand grip thing, i'll try and find some images to show how they are in real-life..i should have some in my wide collection of images of the weapon :cheese: ...god i love that weapon

A.I downloaded Rise of Nations, a perfectly working version. On release day(got it before hand), on gamespy, some of the makers were there, as well as a lot of people who had also downloaded the game. We(the downloaders) talked to the makers about it, and while it wasnt the most confortable conversation, they didn't freak out about it or anything, and we joked around with each other(downloaders complained new patch didn't work, etc). Just to break away from the never rbreak the vow of silence thing.

B.The model does not look good. I am no pro, but you should step away from spline modeling(which I assume you did on alot of the gun), make 12 sides cylinders with a nice skin(to hide the edges), and add more detail to the sides.

C.Hiro, its not like your little crusade will make people see their wrong ways and delete 3ds max, and hope they can save up the money to buy a program thats probably worth more then their computer.Notice I did say wrong.

D.Later, rinse, and Repeat

you missed the conversaton please let's let sleeping dogs lie. I PROMISE not to get back on my high horse and crusade around and i would hope (ask, beg, etc.)that people don't advertise how they got their product. (my major concern is that the board owner could get sued if people talk about it or post links; or whatever)

and it's lather, not later

cheers.

It's obvious you're not a pro, since I did not use spline modelling.

Come on people, give me comments I can work with.

Stone: The handgrip actually is this blocky irl. The stock can be smoothed (in Lightwave), making it nicer. i'm waiting to see if something like that is possible too in HL2. But with an texture on the stock, you don't really see the edges anymore either.

But if you can supply me with some extra pictures of the AK47, I can use it for adding some detail :)

Then why is it so flat? and the pieces look seperate(as if you had made each spline seperatly, and then not done a good job putting them together)? You want constructive critisism, I told you what I could based on what you did and did not tell us.
