ne1 agree that the physic system is kinda sh_tty ? like the barrels and boxes dont react realisticlly at all!

I wasn't too impressed, but I didn't really care. It doesn't effect the gameplay much at all.

Yeah it takes away from the reality it's trying to create. For example, how am I supposed to believe I'm a marine on mars if things don't react realistically? It takes me out of that world. When you shoot a barrel/box with a rocket, you'd expect to at least move a bit.

That made me laugh out loud. A "lol", so to speak. :D

Frankly, I wouldn't mind mediocre physics as much if they had no influence on the game.

If Doom 3 had a manipulator and the physics still sucked, then I'd be sad.

I never noticed the physics myself, since the interactiivty is very low in the game (besides the control panels). In FarCry I spend hours pushing around crates into water or shooting at cans and shelves or throwing grandes under jeeps, now there is fun (or hitting peope with the jeep and watching them fly, yipee :) ).

In farcry, there were crates and barels...and that's about it. The rest of the world was very rigid.

Physics are fine, but, like Far Cry, I wish more things actually HAD them.

Oh, and shitty aint sensored. ;)

They cut down on physics to improves the game's performance. Carmack didn't even want rag dolls in at the begining.

I agree the physics are crap. It's a pity bodies virtually vanish before you can see them ragdoll in all their glory.

Punching boxes is fun though.

Bodies fade? Damn, I wasen't aware of that. Well that's a bit dissapointing as I always like to "inspect" monsters after I blow them away. Surely there is a way to change this in the config, no?

Well, it's no Half-life 2, that's for sure

there's a mod out to fix this.

Dude the monsters fading in their acidy blood is the best, screw regular dead bodies!

i think the fading applies to the demons and not the former humans. I could be wrong. but the ragdoll system seems to work pretty in tune with the game.

Yeah Demon's get the "Blade the film vampire dying effect" and vanish as they die which looks pretty good actually :E....the zombie's/human's stay for quite a while but just get this if you want the demon's to stick around (i dont because everytime id walk past it id think it was alive and waste more ammo)

It removed the vaporization and burnaway effect's from demon's

If you've played the HL2 beta, then yes, the physics are very bad.

i think the fading is because otherwise it would cause more lag and stuff if the bodies stay on the ground

I think they're as good as they need to be. Firefights between shelves are impressive, the plasma gun throws enemies around a little, and I've been known to knock stuff off the wall (extinguishers etc) with a hail of bullets.

Well what did you expect?

D3 was never meant to bring revolution to physics, ne way. :p

I've tried hitting the fire extinguisher with a torch and nothing...

the physics are believable, and better implemented then say Farcry.
but Physics isnt the draw of this game.

Warned for getting around a swear filter that doesn't exist for that word?

Well he's not very bright either. :D
Just try shooting an extinguisher...it falls on the floor with a satisfying "clunk."

Abusive and Offensive Language

Offensive language is unacceptable. You don't have to use excessive profanity to get your point across, and it's usually better to avoid it altogether.

Thats cause the rules on how we moderate were changed after a group had a discussion on IRC and now we've got to quote the rules whenever we do something and we can't really be our own judge jury or executioner anymore or give unwritten warnings or have quiet words or just "let things slip" sometimes for people who likely didn't mean it, we have to follow things by the letter now. It was better how it used to be IMO, atleast you could run to Munro and apologies to get out of it, can't do that now, not without making a fool of Munro and the rules anyway :)

It also means we have to waste ages finding the rules, reading them, reading whole threads, checking with others, copying, pasting, writing up warnings, giving full discriptions and examples. It's a whole very annoying and slow process now *cries and sniffles*

Load up Doom 3

Press Ctrl Alt ~

type "map testmaps/test_boxstack"

It's fun. Thanks Pobz.

Where? WHEEEEREEE??!?!??!

EDIT: And I've never noticed any fading, the bodies stay around for as long as you play I think, it's just that I hate that they have to disappear like that when being gibbed.

I noticed a few zombies that didn't dissolve eventually just popped out of existance. If you check the doom mod thread elsewhere in this section it has links to some mods including the no gib one

I would post screenies, but they are in tga format. And I can't open tga files on my computer so I can't convert them. :(

haha excellent.. wonder what happens if you spawn a zombie in the room and let them all fall on him?

The no-gib mod rocks, I love it. :) the physics are okay in my opinion.

IMO the physics are fine, in MP things are too dark and chaotic to even really care about physics, same goes for sp
