Dad, why did you buy a FX 5700...

Alright, so I was hoping my dad would get a Raedon 9800 for Christmas for me. Some guy at work told him a 5700 was good so he buys me that. Now, I don't know much anything about Graphic cards. But seeing as how there's a GeForce 6600 and 6900, i wanna know if I'll be able to run Half Life 2. And if at high settings. Or at least medium settings.

you can run it on medium, but don't expect to play it with any of those fancy reflections, unless you get the DX9 patch from joshuaC

Yeah, you'll probably run it okay on medium settings. That's too bad about the card, a radeon 9800 is considerably better than a geforce 5700.

Is it a bog standard 5700 or an Ultra. I have an Ultra and can play @ 1024x768 everthing high with the FX reflection patch and never drop below 30fps..ave around mid 60's.

Even a non ultra should cope OK a med details.

i have the 5600 xt and i can run on high settings with lag sometimes, source runs better tho..
