Tempe Town Lake is gone LOL

Idiots were told to keep the rubber dams from overheating too! The town refused to maintain the dams and now they're surpised by this

Tempe is the home of ASU (Sun Devils) and the Salt River flows from tempe all the way west through Phoenix

The video below is old (last night). Nearly a billion gallons drained and made a giant torrent of water rushing down the normally dry Salt River!

Bridgestone Industrial Products said it warned Tempe for more than a decade that the rubber dam that failed Tuesday night needed to be kept cool and moist with a sprinkler system or "overtopping'' water to compensate for the Valley's severe heat and sunlight.

But Bridgestone spokesman Don Darden said the sprinkler system on the dam had not been used since last summer, and was not in use this summer, because of Tempe's plans to replace the dam. The company manufactured the dam's components.

Tempe Councilwoman Onnie Shekerjian said the council was told the sprinklers weren't being used because "they didn't work the way they were supposed to" and were not adequately bathing the dam's surface to keep it cool.

Hours after the bladder burst, Tempe and Bridgestone began pointing fingers at each other over the sprinkler issue

Is that the creek that runs between SunDevil Stadium and Sky Harbor?

Seems like even partial function would be better than none...

"This tourniquet is keeping Mr Stevens alive, but it's not repairing his femural artery. Better untie it until we find a way to close the artery."

Still nothing as cool as my Niagara Falls

Go **** Yourself Tempe Lake

It's technically a river and it's been flowing pretty heavily off and on this year with the early rain we had in Jan/Feb and SRP releasing resevoirs.

But Tempe Town Lake is (was) a manmade lake right by Sun Devil Stadium on the Salt River. Held just barely short of 1 billion gallons of water.

never liked it. Too many rules. Cant do this, cant do that, etc etc. But it did rake in a lot of tourism money..

I'm not familiar with Arizona, does this have a serious impact on the town itself?

Economically. Not from physical flood damage or anything. Rivers here are usually dry but they can run at full capacity. All this did was pour into the empty riverbed and fill it up again for a while.

But it's crazy because the entire lake is gone that they built up so much infrastructure around. There's a lot of events that are ruined, triathalons, etc anything that used the lake (Iron man competition even)

Once they fix the dam, are they going to have everyone get out their garden hoses to refill it?

I'll never move to an area that has a low amount of water. I live in the middle of the Great Lakes and if there was ever a natural disaster, its nice knowing that not only do I have a lake that is 200 feet deep just 3 miles from my house, but there is a Giant Lake just 15 miles away

Hmmm, I driven by that quiet a few times I believe.
Yep if you've driven the 202 to the 10 you have. Where u at in scottsdale? I work there near 101 and frank lloyd wright! Here now even. Like 40 miles from my pad so I see that lake daily in the commute
