Well ive been having some fps problems with my computer and such because of all these drivers and how to install etc. And i recently installed the mobo drivers.....about 3 weeks after getting my computer....damnit. Its says in the maneul taht you should install them right after you install windows. Now im kinda pissed because it looks like if i want to have my computer running at full compacity or to full extent im going to have to reformat.

Any advice or input? On how to go about reformating, i did it on my old computer once but i didnt really take my time or anything because i couldnt have cared less about it. But i really care about my current comp seeing as a bought it myself.

backup what you need.

assuming you have an XP cd, boot from the xp cd if you can and use the partitioner and formatter in there. then just install.

install motherboard drivers first. then video. then go from there

Well since its a pretty new computer i have nothing really important on it except the stuff that i have CDs for, ie Window Xp/microsoft works etc.

I have the XP CD but how do i "boot from it" and whats the partitioner and formatter? (im guessing they delete all your stuff then help you install windows again)

go into your bios and set your first boot device to 'CDROM'. then put your xpcd in, it should say press any key to continue. is your main HD an ide or something different?

i only have a DVD drive so i dont think it would be called CDROM, or would it?

And i dont wanna start messing around with the BIOS or any of that stuff untill i know how to do it from start to finish, cause if i mess up ill be stuck.

PS- i only have one HD so....

EDIT: after looking through my CDs that i have i also have a Recovery CD-Rom, so i can use this right?

It reads; The software included on this Recovery CD-ROM was pre-installed on your Harddrive at the factory and may only be used for backup and recovery of your CyberPower inc. computer system. Performance of the software is the sole responsiblity of Cyberpower Inc.

a winXP or sys-restore cd probably will automatically boot if you just put it in the dvd drive and re-start your machine. my old machine came with a sys-restore disk, and to use it i just put it in and re-booted, it would automatically put up a dos-looking screen that asked if i was sure i wanted to wipe out my hd and re-install from the beginning. i'm not entirely sure about your winXP disk, but it probably works the same way.

if your machine did come with a sys-restore, that should be your safest bet. just back up your data, and re-install. your machine will be running fine in no time...

well i dont know what your bios looks like, but you'll want to find 'boot order'. it should say 1st device, then 2nd device, then 3rd device. your 1st or 2nd device should be set to HD0 already which is your harddrive. make sure its set to cdrom/dvd as the first one it looks for(otherwise itll just boot into windows) and the 2nd one your harddrive. even though you have DVD it'll probably still say CDROM. thats ok.

doing this alone will not erase anything, so you'll still be able to boot back into windows the check the forum if you want to. but if it doesn't prompt for user interaction and boots straight into the cd, you'll have to take it out of the drive to get back to windows

ok well ima look into my manuels a little more, then im going to reformat and get my computer running as it should be.

Good luck. At least now you know not to make that mistake next time.

What do you mean, you just reformat and reinstall windows.

Ok, im glad im up and running now.

I have a question tho. How should i install the catalyst 4.9 driver, do i have to uninstall what i have right now? should i install directx 9.0c first?
I dont wanna mess up the drivers again so....help.

Why don't you install dx 9.0c first, at least I think so. And you shouldn't have to uninstall your previous catalyst for a new one. But I'm not too sure so maybe you should wait for another reply. And what's with this forum, it was down for a little while and I keep getting errors on pages. Is it those links people are clicking or something?

yeah i was unable to connect for awhile also...oh well.

And i dont have menu's when i go into setting>advanced> and then i only have a few tabs to click on (i dont have like 3D, Options etc)

so im guessing i might have to install catalyst 4.9....

Sorry for double post (cant edit)

Can anyone answer my question of if i should install the 4.9 driver? (i have the sapphire disc, so maybe i should run that?)

I want to install a game or something soon to see the changes of my fps and preformance.
