Well, i'm currently holding a friend's 2 cats at my house, feeding them and whatnot indefinately. They're outside cats, since they don't like to be potty trained and have other bad habits.

Things were going fine for a while, but then this damn raccoon shows up, and starts bullying them for their food. He slinks in, they don't pay him much attention... but then he kind of shoves them out of the way(literally) and starts eating their food. The cats don't bother him.

2 Cats, one golden, one kinda black and white. But they don't wanna mess with this raccoon, and I wouldn't either. Heh.

I'm trying to think up some solutions for it, but since I don't want to kill it, i'm rather limited :cheese:

I heard that raccoons can't jump (White men can't jump!). So I was thinking of building an elevated feeding platform, but thats more work than I wanna do(yeah, i'm lazy) for cats that aren't even mine.

But. I did take some pics of the raccoon. The little bugger was all cautious as he ate, watching in case I tried to make any moves on him. lol

The images aren't the greatest quality(i'm still learning how to get the best out of my Fujifilm finepix s5000 digital camera I bought over a year ago.).

Raccoon 1

Raccoon 2

Raccoon 3

Raccoon 4

I also have a little video footage of it, but I don't know how to compress it. Heh. 26 seconds, about 15 megabytes.

I also had a opossum doing the same thing, later at night.

Kill the son of a bitch!

Well... not all of us are gun-toting liberals.

Haha. Yeah, yeah. I know.

Hey now...I ain't a liberal...or a right winger, but I am a gun-toting country boy. :D

It's gonna keep coming back if you don't kill...ether that or call someone that captures wild animals.

Sechs it up. Train it to kill.

Or any of the innumerable amount of not funnah suggestions.

there are those things that like make racoons and other animals go away by making like ultrasound waves or something. dont know what thatll do to your cats though :P

Do the old fashioned cardbox box and stick trap.

Your best bet would be to talk to the local Animal people who come out and deal with these, they might be able to recommend some kind of artificial sent that drives raccoons away whilst not harming cats.

Find that racoon's parents, cut them up, make them into chilli and feed it to the racoon...then see who comes back for more. If that is lost on the animal, at least it'l have problems with number 2s for a couple of days.

aww, racoon :D how cute! Probably rife with disease etc etc, but still!

Like razor said, it's probably best to get some animal people to deal with it

don't kill it :(

stuff it in a box, drive out to some deserted place far away and release it.

Build a platform!

Had a 'possum at my old house that used to pull the same shit. Then my house burned down. Thanks for bringing it up.

Put poison (If your feeling cruel) or just chilli or something in the food and dont let the cats eat it. Yea...Im not too good with suggestions. Put a sign saying "No Raccoons." you never know, it might be intelligent.

Like....Tiger claw! A man who by night is really the claw of a tiger!

Teach your cats Kung-Fu. Or change your cats name to Puss-in-boots. That will definently scare the Racoon away.

haha, two SP references in one thread:D

"We don't take kindly to raccoons around here!"

"now skeeter he ain't hurtin' nobody"

Shoot it in the butt with a paintball gun, I BET it won't ever come back.

i think the chilli idea might work ...or just set another bowl with some scraps for the racoon.
the elevated platform wont work ....coz theyre amazing climbers ...

Yeah what disturbed said but vary it a little. Squirt water at it or pour water on it (cold please Definately not hot) to scare it away, and every time it comes try squirting it. Do you have a motion detector light? That would help. If they get wet everytime they won't come back. Or put the food near a source of noise like a radio, they won't go near any noise, they'll just run. Just scare tactics are best, hurting it is pointless, its just an animal trying to survive.

Just borrow a neighbour's dog or something, and let that hunt it away.

That wont be fun, you gotta hunt it yourself and watch it suffer!!!!

< joims knows>

ok
get a massive card board box like a fridge freezer box,

thenn

get a rubbish ( garbage) bin thing pref metal and build a trap with scraps and the bin liek up above it with some bins knocked over around it to make it seem to the racoon that its just knocked out food, n then u get in your cardboadrd box ( dont maek any noise) and look thru your precut hole, u may need to leave a light on inside house to give of enuff light to see it and then when it comes and starts eating drop the bin on it!!
and then jsut stick a brick or 20 ontop of the bin n leave it:p it will have one last tasty meal before it dies:)

I loved raccoons! When I was about 9, we had to take care of 3 of them baby critters cause the city cut down a tree and killed da mamma. They were fun and stuff......ANYWAY, cold water does it well. Or just give him his own little food dish. Maybe he will start liking you when you feed it;)

Don't worry. I'm not gonna kill it.

Well. reading other peoples responses. Man, some of you are nuts! I'm not gonna maim/murder/torture/destroy/annihilate/smite/chop into little pieces/throw off a cliff/shoot/crush/pull apart the coon. LOL. Funny suggestions though.

I'm likely gonna trap him and release him far away... or use the water technique some have suggested. Right now I was just scaring him away while the cats fed. Then took the food dishes back inside(the cats WILL NOT eat inside. they just wander around aimlessly and wont eat).

And to the person I quoted in this sig... feeding the coon purposefully will not be good, as it will likely cause him and other people trouble as he becomes more dependant entirely on man bringing him his food, rather than stealing it himself. Everything i've read suggests not to feed a coon like it was a pet, for the pets sake and your sake.
