We've known for a while that Arkane Studios, the French studio behind games like Arx Fatalis, has been developing a game using the Source engine. Yesterday, however, it was announced that the game is titled "Dark Messiah of Might & Magic".
Developed by Arkane Studios, the team behind the critically acclaimed Arx Fatalis game, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic puts players in a first-person perspective, allowing them to immerse themselves in the legendary Might and Magic universe as never before. It is also the world's first fantasy action game to feature a complete first-person combat system. It takes full advantage of the Source engine's exceptional technological enhancements in areas such as character animation, advanced AI, real-world physics and shader-based rendering.

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic is scheduled for a summer 2006 release and will be shown for the first time at the Games Convention in Germany on August 17, 2005.
Is it also being released over Steam? Yet another title is according to last week's weekly Steam news and that should be announced soon. Keep 'em peeled.

Thanks goes to the guys over at the Gamespot Headcrab Union for this news.

Cool, I've always been a fan of the Might and Magic series.

Never PLAYED M&M...maybe I should. If it's worthy of the Source enging and Steam..then maybe it deserves a bit of my time.

It's real old school now :P I'd recommend MM6 if you don't mind the crappy graphics.

Lol what a title. When will we see "The Mighty Necrofallus in the World of Darkness"?

I'm pretty sure that the Steam release title this week will be the MMORPG "Pirates of the Burning Sea".

I remember the developers stating a while back that they were going to use Steam to distribute the game.

Oooh, awesomeness. I'm a big fan of Arx Fatalis, and while I was hoping that this project would be Arx Fatalis 2, anything from Arkane is good in my book. Steam or no, I'm getting it retail, but it'd be nice to see games distributed over Steam more. It is, after all, what it's there for..

It's really too bad that nearly all first person fantasy games (minus the thief series and such) are horrible horrible games...

What about morrowind.

Didn't like the first Morrowind that much myself... was a bit too meandering for my tastes, and the proliferation of written text and the same old models and voices felt a bit lazy. But any game with a drunken mudcrab gets my vote :D

*ahem*

Only Might & Magic game I've played is Crusaders, and that was a mixed bag. Never really got into it, but I've heard some good things about Arx Fatalis and I bet its developers can make an enjoyable title with this different license...

Arx Fatalis was definately a diamond in the rough. Extremely buggy at release and after patches, but a really gripping game nonetheless. I'm sure, now that Arkane has their hands on a good, solid engine(which they have been working on for over a year now), they'll be able to make a really great game.

Is this new M&M going to be in a similar vein to Morrowind then? I loved that game soooooooo much

Theres a new Steam update with a teaser thats a mix of in game message and a message from Gabe. It's looking ****ing beautiful, even better looking than Lost Coast. It's what Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines should've looked like if they didn't rush it.
