Dark screen in DoD

I just tried to play DoD, but have a graphics problem: everything is black. It also happens in The Trenches, but no other HL engine mods. The only thing that I can think distinguishes DoD and Trenches is that they have particle effects, but I'm not sure that that is the reason behind the problem. It has only occurred since I activated HL2.

My graphics card is a 9800 pro using 4.11 drivers.

ATI cards have an option where you can set hotkeys that you can press in-game that will allow you to adjust brightness and override the game's settings. I use them all the time. Might be worth a try.

Go to your "ATI Display Settings"
Go to "Color" and choose "Full Screen 3D".
Choose "Hotkeys" and set the keys up to use.

Personally, I use these keys:

ALT + F1 - Increase Gamma
ALT + F2 - Decrease Gamma
ALT + F3 - Increase Brightness
ALT + F4 - Decrease Brightness
ALT + 1 - Increase Contrast
ALT + 2 - Decrease Contrast
