Darth Vader's body has been banned from all future Lucasfilm-sanctioned Star Wars conventions

David Prowse, the actor who portrayed Vader's bionic body in the original Star Wars trilogy, posted the news to his website last month stating he learned from organizers of Celebration V, taking place August 12-15 in Orlando, FL, that he was not to be invited, nor would he be invited for all future events. After inquiring into the decision, he claims he was told by Lucasfilm representatives that he had "burnt too many bridges" between Lucasfilm and himself.

Prowse has notoriously opposed George Lucas over the years for his replacement of Prowse's voice as Vader with James Earl Jones in the original trilogy, and for the casting of Sebastian Shaw as the unmasked Vader in Return Of The Jedi.

here's his voice as Vader

The original voice sounds terrible. Seems like there might be more of a back story to that "burnt bridges" comment, though.

I'm just glad James was able to lip-sync it well enough to not look weird.

Wow, I'm so glad they went with James Earl Jone's voice. Prowse's voice is awful.

Yeah, ofcourse. Have the black guy do the work and give the white guy credit. Sheesh, typical.

I think we need a sarcasm tag made specifically for Ridge.

Sorry, in an emotionless vacuum such as the internet, its hard to differentiate real stupidity from sarcastic stupidity.

"You're a blimmin' member of the rebel alliance 'n out! I'll 'ave you knicked for this."

Classic.

I never side with Lucas Arts on anything anymore.

I despise Lucas Arts. I hate George Lucas.

He was supposed to be at a comicon I went to last month, he didn't show up :p

Prowse had a terrible, terrible voice for the role of Darth Vader. I'm glad they took the road of making Vader's voice sound more robotic and, in turn, more suited to his enhancements by picking James Earl Jones to do the voice acting and all that.

Lol that guy sounded like me in one of my high school video-projects.

Surely Grim Fandango isn't that bad, Raz?

It's more of the fact that Lucas Arts tends to ruin everything good that they've made. Lucas Arts and star wars for instance.

Does anyone else find that the voice was the only saving grace of Darth Vader? He moves so awkwardly and has absolutely no presence besides his voice.

I agree. For such an advanced Sith Lord, he wasn't very good. Hell, he joined the dark side because he was told he could save people from death....never happened. He wasnt even able to kill off a young Jedi who hadnt even finished his training. Multiple times.

I dunno man, I found Darth Vader to be much cooler than if he were flipping around all ninja like, new trilogy style.

He was an aging metal man.

I just feel that he should have moved with grace, even if it was an impeded robotic grace.

Yes, because in 1977 they had totally planned for Darth Vader to be doing acrobatics and power blasts in his former life as an angsty teen in a sterile prequel trilogy.

Wearing a large fiberglass helmet that you can hardly see out of, with restricting neck piece and shoulder pads, and knee high boots, I'm not sure what else you could expect.

That said, Darth Vader's movements are awesome. They are slow, they are restricting, he puts his hands on his hips and he points a lot. Wouldn't want it any other way.

Im not saying he should be fighting like a Crazy 88, but he seemed to have no skill. He was perpetually on the edge of losing...hell, they blew up two Death Stars in like 10 years, both of which he was personally in command of....

Nay. It would hardly make sense for him to move with grace to begin with considering how messed up his body was.

Also, I perfer his slower but more deliberate actions. Gave him more of a presence.

EDIT: Love the picture, ZT.

That video clip is from a documentary called "Empire of Dreams". Good watch.

To be fair the character was burned nearly to death in a damn volcano world

And I'm sure, fictionally, the cybernetic additions to his body would have encumbered him a great deal. After he got burned and had all of those modifications to his body, he wouldn't have been able to have been some acrobatic teenager who could do flips and cartwheels so easily. Although, I admit, that would've been entertaining, yet painful, to watch.

I can see why they changed the voice, but as far as I know, he didn't find out about it untill he saw the movie himself. Somwhat of a dick move. But if any one should be banned from the starwars franchise it's Lucas himself. The man is a ****ing disaster.

I don't care about the movies, just make him not touch the ****ing video games.

Yes it did.

What, you mean like in Episode IV where he kills his former master and dispatches four or five rebel fighters on his own? Or in Episode V where he sometimes drops his lightsaber in his fight against Luke cause he knows he doesn't need it, he can just fling stuff at this untrained little boy and then cuts off his hand after a fairly one-sided battle in his favour? Or Episode VI where he and Luke have an anything but one-sided battle in the emperor's throne room, a fight he does lose eventually, but this time against a fully trained Jedi knight filled with rage and hate?

Basically, Darth Vader is the shit, yo. Don't mess.

All I have to say is any asshole can wear the suit.

James Earl Jones IS Darth Vader.
