Dawn of War demo tomorrow

Hmm, I've been wanting to try out the single player side.

It's been released! check out bluesnews.com

I'd appreciate anyone posting their impressions of the demo

Demos are for newbs. The beta is where it's at! I iz h4rdc0r3 !!1!!1

yes but not everyone can get into the beta. So mr h4rdc0r3 what do you think of the game?

My opinion about the demo: More people should download it via BitTorrent! Im only 11% done!

Anyone got it yet, ive just started downloading it.

Hope it rocks :)

Course it rocks, it's Warhammer. Quite a few balancing issues still lingering about, though. And a nasty A.I script leak in the tutorial level giving really nasty performace.

details! details! why does it rock? never played warhammer

Age verification failed?
I have to be over 18 to get the demo?

Pfft. I put my year of birth as 1980 and it still didn't work.
Load of bollocks.

I'm gonna go to 3dgamers.

Pfft! You are not worthy of the Emperors attention.

Er, yes. Hmm, nerdism out of the way:

The problems are minor, to huge - depending on how you look at it. In the earlier versions of the beta it was pretty damn good. 1.3 being possibly the best release (1.4 now) The problem with 1.4 is that it's so easy to rush and end the game in moments of it beginning. Aother problem is with with the Space Marine's Terminator squads being, well, total pussies.

Their morale disperses within seconds of a fight - which is just plain wrong as they're the Elitiest of the Elite and really needs to be sorted. There are massive disputes over this, people saying its fine as it is its just that the opposing team concentrates every unit they have on your squad of termies, which I think is just pure bollocks. If they're the Elitest Infantry you have at your disposal then they should be able to take massive amounts of fire with little to no morale loss at all. They've had thousands of years of battle hardening experience, so having a tone of enemy fire comming your way should do little to dampen their spirits. Grrr!

There is also the debate that the Eldar need a mass of tweaking due to them requiring a very skilled player to use them effectivley. They are slightly unbalanced, but practically every race in the beta have a few issues with them so it's not to bothering. You just have to know what you are doing with said race to be 100% effective at crushing the opposition.

Another issue is that games are so heavy in combat, and players end up spewing out infantry and support vehicles that you never reach Tier 3 (Tier 1, Tier 2 and Teir 3 - progression through the ages, basically) But I find that little of an issues, it just depends on what type of game and opponent(s) you are facing. That coupled with the reinforcement rates of your squads being another issues which is getting certain players in a twist. The fact that there is no decreasing factor to your rate of receving reinforcements for your squad. People have debated over this for ages. Suggesting that the farther you are from your base, the slower the reinforcement should be. Or that if your squad is on low morate they should receive reinformcents slower. Who knows what will happen, personally, I'm happy with the way it is; it procudes massive battles, I mean really huge and varies the combat nicely.

My only personal annoyance with the game is the Chaos Legions BLood Thruser (spelling) which is so god damn powerfull it just anhilates your entire 150+ man army with ease. Unless you have a good counter for him, you are quite literally, ****ed.

I have played the fantasy version of warhammer. I would not have stopped if I did not hate painting and it was not so damn expensive!

Ok I just finished the download and have watched the introduction video. It was the best introduction movie I ever seen! It puts some action movies to shame!

*sigh* File Planets not working and everywhere else is giving me pants dl speeds :(

Yea I guess they based it on old rules Warhammer.. he was pretty unstopable then too :p tho thats a little crap if they use the desktop for a template for one area and ignore it in others like you mentioned with Terminators.

There are tactics to taking down everything, I remember reading on the forums that...some unit I can't remember can take down the blood thirster in seconds.

Ive played the demo, a lot...

The good things:
Extremly fun and really strategic! (Forget sending troops against vehicles without missile launchers, crush there morale etc...)
The best animations in any RTS to date.
Squad system minimizes nessacery micro managing (The units are smart enough to not charge into melee while the rest of the squad uses there automatic weapon like crazy!).
Nice weapons (Battle tank with twin linked laser cannons plus two additional laser cannons is fun!).
Squads can have weapons as you see fit.

The bad things:
The demo only lets you play as Space Marines (You can fight against orcs in the campaign map though).
Emmm, cant think of anything I noticed.

this game looks like a Warcraft of the future
(never played the demo)

The Beta is really enjoyable, much faster and dare i say it... better than warcraft... allot of fun, especially all the carnage on screen, enemies and troops flying everywhere, the games gorgeous and allot of fun just to sit and watch them battle it out.

[Edit] i have the beta not demo :p

Yeah, pitty that. It's what ended my Warhammer 40k career.

Same here. The high prices and the new rules, they completely "newbified" the game :(

Here are two pics of the last figurines I painted, very dusty hehe:

Some nice painting there, I'll try and find my old collection and post some picies later if I can.

I miss my choas hordes, I loved them in the beat, big shame the demo only lets to use spud marines, I'll be buying it when it comes out anyways.

Id show some of my old collection.. IVe got some very old models from the first rule set.. but I never got good at painting them so ill only embarace my self :p

I've got millions of screenshots from the beta...unfortunately I can't show them :x

Should be finaly playing something new though, I was getting tired of the same maps :)

It was OK. Nothing special, apart from the unit design (which is lifted straight from the boardgame version). :/

Thanks :)

But I paint so slowly it's embarrassing, I still have two Deathwing Terminator squads to paint, and another dozen figurines (mainly characters, Azrael, Ezekiel, Bethor, etc...).

Terminator's should be nubbins but they sem to died off pretty quickly when you consider their cost. I've played through the BETA and have enjoyed it for the most part (when ppl were TESTING rather than rushing to win, muppets). Shame the Space Marines don't have a uber unit like the other two races.
