Day of Defeat wont load: "HL.exe abnormal termination"

Since the end of February, I haven't been able to get Day of Defeat to load. I have tried reinstalling and clearing out all the cache files, but nothing works.

I'm playing the Valve version of Day of Defeat. Nothing on my computer has changed recently (except maybe for those endless f-ing Java updates). I was able to play just fine last month.

Any suggestions on how to fix this? Is it a known issue of some kind?

If I remember correctly, there were a bunch of updates last month to their older games that apparently broke a lot of stuff, especially in the modding aspect. Might be your issue is related. But yeah, a description of what actually happens would be useful to trying to figure it out.
