will upgrading from 1gb DDR 333 to 1gb DDR2 533 give me even a noticable performance increase? or shall i spend the money on something else for the pc. 50 odd pounds is a lot of money wasted if its not making any difference

well you wont be able to put ddr2 into your system if you have ddr in there right now so, no

yes. yes i will =\ ... i have 2 DDR slots and 2 DDR2 slots.

well still i woulnt do it...whats the rest of your system specs?

Well there is very little difference between the 2 right now since most boards dont take DDR2 at high enough speeds to make a difference since DDR has lower latencies.

So no it wont make a difference (at least not enough for the money). What are your full system specs, especially the motherboard name and the CPU?

ok.

P4 3.2ghz (prescott with HT. 3ghz stock speed)
1gb DDR 333 ram
ATI radeon X700 pro (coming tommorow i should think!!) on board graphics for the moment (bleh)
mobo has an intel 915G chipset, its this odd brand called jetway. i think the model is 917GBAG

your system is fine atm. I would save that money to buy some nice speakers, or maybe a monitor

hmmm. monitor eh? :)

im going to get a new pc case, and cooling system anyway :)

DDR is offered in lower latencies compared with DDR2 and that is the main advantage right now for DDR. DDR2 will be able to go up to higher speeds but it won't coverup the latency difference until you get around DDR667.

DDR 333 vs DDR2 533 is a hard choice, but I'd also save my money for other things down the road. Maybe see how well your DDR333 OCs. The difference would be noticable IMO but so would the cost!

<- Has Corsair XMS PC2700 (DDR333) 2-2-2-5 OCed to PC3200 (DDR400) 2-2-2-5 with no issues. Although I wasn't able to get this OC with my Athlon XP I used to have, just on the Athlon 64. Your mileage will vary.

It's best to go with the DDR as of right, as stated before the motherboards that do support DDR2 will not make much of difference since the motherboards that are out now don't run at a high enough speed to notice a major difference. So, if you want DDR2 then you will probably have to wait till some time later this year for a motherboard that can make a difference you can see.

edit:special post...
