Dead computer

About a week ago I went to turn on my PC. The monitor didn't flick on and shortly after there was definitely a burnt component somewhere in it. The smell seemed to be coming from within the PSU, and I could see no visible burns on any of the other components, so I RMA'd the PSU.

The other day I got the PSU for the new PC i'm building shortly, so i figured I might as well hook that one up and see if I can get the PC to run. No luck there however. I've tested the video card, RAM, and reset the cmos via removing the battery temporarily. The mobo won't even post, which leads me to believe it's a mobo problem. Any suggestions on what I should try before I see if I can RMA the mobo?

Well, like I said the Video card and RAM still work fine, it jusy won't post .

Yup, I'd have to agree... probably just the motherboard, though. Not much else you can do with it besides RMA it.

Just some ideas to run through.
Is there any light on the motherboard that would tell you if it is getting power? Does the power supply fan even begin to spin when you hit the PC power button on the front of the case? Is the red voltage switch set correctly on the back of the new power supply? Both the ATX and 4 pin power plugged into the motherboard? Mess with any other hardware parts when switching powersupplies?

With the new power supply, all the fans run and the power LED on the mobo turns on. Yes, the voltage on the PSU is correct and all cords are plugged in as they should be. I've tested the video card and ram and those are working fine. Not really much else I can do if it is a short on the motherboard, so i'm just going to RMA it to asus and hope it doesn't take too long.
