This is one of my biggest fears. How awful. Story still makes the corners of my mouth twitch though. How stupid not to even call a doctor.

A 50-year-old South African man woke up inside a mortuary over the weekend and screamed to be let out - scaring away attendants who thought he was a ghost.

His family presumed he was dead when they could not wake him on Saturday night and contacted a private morgue in a rural village in the Eastern Cape.

He spent almost 24 hours inside the morgue, the region's health department spokesman told the Sapa news agency.

Crazy. How could people possibly think he was a ghost. Silly Africa.

I'd be hella pissed if that was me. Don't people around the world know how to check a pulse by now??

Probably has something to do with the African continent barely having an adult literacy rate of 50%.

JUST DEAD TIRED OF GETTING BAD RECEPTION ON HIS BANNAPHONE

Do you think his life slowly flashed before his eyes? Or do you think he had plenty of time to think about his life before they found him?

Holy crap, dude. I bet it would have been hilarious to watch the morgue attendants' reactions.

"You begin to ask yourself how many other people have died like that in a morgue," said Mr Kupelo.

"We need to [get] the message across to all South Africans that it is very wrong for them to conclude on their own that a person has died," he said.

This is wtf

Yeah that bit really freaked me out too. Makes you wonder if it really does happen. When I die, I want them to kill me again....just to be sure.

I think being an organ donor would be the safest way to ensure you're really dead. I mean, after they take all your shit out you're not gonna wake up again!

Personally I'd rather they use every means possible to check if I'm alive or not, and if I'm still actually alive do whatever it takes to resuscitate me.

From what I understand, in western countries a brain activity scanner is also used in addition to the heart rate monitor, to make sure that when a person is declared dead they really are dead.

I think that when people die, we should ask them if they're dead, just like in Cool Runnings.

I intend to donate my body to medical science, or donate my organs. Either would do. It's like recycling.

Lol. I'm now going to try to end any advice to people with the phrase "just like in Cool Runnings."
