Yesterday I noticed that my Samsung SyncMaster 730BF has a dead pixel. It's annoying the crap out of me. I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with dead pixels in Samsung monitors. Do they actually replace the monitor? Or aren't dead pixels part of the warranty? Any help would be highly appreciated.

you should try calling samsung to see if it can be replaced. also the rma for the monitor might depend on how many dead pixels you have. on neweggs policy you must have at least 8 dead pixels in order for a return.

I have one dead pixel, so they prolly won't replace it.

Is there a way to fix it myself? I used this tool but that didn't do much. It's actually meant for the PSP but I thought it might work for a normal monitor as well. It doesn't. I ran it for about an hour but nothing changed. The dead pixel is green when it's supposed to be any other color than white, but it displays white without a problem.

my friend told me that if you run a fast moving rgb gif. it might fix it

While were on the topic of dead pixels: Is it possible for CRT's to get dead pixels, because mine has one i think.

I had a few dead pixels on my samsung syncmaster. All I did was rub the area with my finger until it went away...It has happened more than once so I'm beginning to think it really works.

Yeah, i've heard sometimes rubbing the area might help. Check their warranty coverage or give them a call. Most companies used to only cover it if there was 5-6 dead pixels in the same area or 10-12 total on the screen. Now there are some companies that have 'zero dead pixel' warranties but they might be picky just how the pixel is dead. Stuck on On or off, if it's a sub pixel etc.

Dead pixels are considered acceptable by the industry. And CRTs do not get dead pixels since they don't have pixels. They use an electron gun and a shoot it through a screen. Though there might be something in there blocking the light at that spot.

I have a 173p syncmaster so hopefully it won't happen.

How long have you had the monitor?

I would definitely check the RMA or repair policies before trying any homebrew repair methods.

if the manufacturer wont replace it, sometimes the retailer where you bought it from might......

Damn that sucks! I have had this Sony HS-73 for like 2-3 years and it is running good! *knock on wood*

I got one from hyundai (Q90U) and I got one dead pixel, right out of the box. It's right in the fricking centre. If I wanted a pixel warranty, it would have cost me €50 more :(

It's a black pixel. Is it revivable with rubbing? Is there a chance I might kill other pixels?

Chances are that more dead pixels might appear if you're touching the wrong place. I had 2 dead sub-pixels on my LG and couldn't get rid of them :I
