am i missing something??

i just downloaded the 1GB demo off of xbox live marketplace and while i think it's a totally awesome game, i found that there wasnt much to do
can you actually find the guy that needs rescuing? the one that the woman talks about at the start..? cause i havent been able to
if you go towards the entrance plaza, it shows a cutscene with the guys and their rifles
or if you go in the opposite direction, into the cinema, there's another cutscene with some priest worshipping a mannequin
both end the demo.

im not saying i didnt have fun exploring the different stores, putting on funky clothes, and running zombies over with a shopping cart :P
im just saying... there must be more to the demo @ 1GB!!

Yeahs, thats it in the demo. Full game is huge really and pretty tough.

You can't find the guy in the demo.

Get the full game, it's one of the best and most laugh out loud funny games of recent years. One tip - don't get bogged down in missions on the first play through - level up, learn the mall, it's a whole lot more fun that way.

***POSSIBLE SPOILERS***

i finally rented the game...
can you explain how the 72 hour mode works? i mean, i know that you have 72 hours to get as many great photos as possible and to uncover the truth behind what's going on...
but what happens if you dont do any missions; you just decide to massacre zombies and what not for the full 72 hours? do you fail? do you get to try again with the same character(ie same level)??
and how do you unlock the true ending? and the survival mode?
cheers

You get one of the few endings if you just kill, kill and kill. The game simply states "The truth is forever shrouded in darkness."

If you save you can go through again with the same character and everything.

True ending is unlocked by completing all missions and getting to the chopper on time. I think that's it, there could be more to it.

Yeh. Dead Rising is meant to be played through a few times. There's no 'failing', only different endings depending on how you have played. You can spend the entire time messing around and levelling up if you like.

I found most enjoyment in exploring the mall, finding out where the decent weapons, books, and cool clothes were, and screwing around with the zombies. Once you're done messing around you can start the game again wth your levelled up character and knowledge of the mall and really take the fight to the zombie hordes - cutting paths through 100s of zombies while leading 4 ppl from safe spot to safe spot, stopping for food and new weapons on the way, is a gaming experience unlike any other :)

i think i need to get this game after your description warbie :)

and screwing around with the zombies
Is that a skill you learn, or do you need an item? :E

Be warned! Dead Rising is a damn hard game. I still haven't finished it yet... but then again, I can;t remember where I left off. (Curse you PES and Zelda).

I think you do too :) - go buy!

And seriously - sod the missions on the first play through. I think the reason some ppl never got into Dead Rising was because they attempted to finish every mission from the get go and got swamped down and frustrated. It shouldn't be a chore - it's the ultimate sandbox game - run around wearing only pants and a cowboy hat hitting zombies wth a plastic sword :)

Whilst fun, this game pisses me off SO much. Defeating Carlito the second time, when he has the sniper, was INSANE. I've done it now, and I've got the medicine from the store, but when I give it to the lady at the security center it says ''Mission Passed'' and then straight after it gives me that ''The past has fallen into darkness...'' thing and cancels all my cases. What the hell? I've got a file saved near the checkpoint but EVERYTIME it does it.

you must have left the main mission go for too long

Dead Rising is like CS:S multiplied by 12398120954812039123, I hate it so much but I still play it regardless of the bad save system, the high difficulty

I agree. This game nearly made me put my controller through the TV, but it's so satisfying when you FINALLY do that boss, or complete the mission, and I really don't want this ****-up I'm experiencing to ruin it.

you must have left the main mission go for too long

Nay, there is still a tiny smidgeon of red on the countdown. Not that I can see it very well (none-HD TV.), but it would of said otherwise. If not, then that's a bit dumb on the developers behalf.

and how do you unlock the true ending?
*SPOILER*

Near the end of the game you get 6-9 game hours to do whatever you want, at 10:00 AM you get a call from Isabella, and if you go talk to her, you confirm the death of Brad and Jessie (Kill them when they are zombies), and are on the Helipad by 12:00PM (noon) you get ending A. Getting ending A unlocks infinity mode, beating overtime mode also unlocks infinity mode.

*SPOILER*

and the survival mode?
Infinity (survival) mode is just survive as long as you can, you unlock things if you last for 3 game days, 5 game days, and 7 game days. (7 game days is roughly 14 hours real-time), the thing about this is that your health depletes (1 bar every 100 seconds) and psychopaths randomly spawn in their areas, but they drop food so you can get health, and that you get no save points, so if you want the 7 day unlockable you have to play the game for 14 hours, you can unlock a save feature in infinity mode, but it is god damn long and hard to do so.

BTW.. Dead Rising is NOT hard (Sniper Carlito is easy to beat with a sniper gun of your own, btw.), I had to restart 1 time, I had to reload like twice, and beat the game at level 7... taking almost no pictures.. The trick is to take over the gun shop very early in the game, free shotguns!

Also DO NOT underestimate the sledge hammer, it is easily one of the best melee weapons in the game, the good thing is that it's really easy to get.

I both love and hate Dead Rising.

where is the gun shop and how does one take it over?

the gun shop's in the north wing of the mall, but it's guarded

*SPOILER*

The Gun shop is in North Plaza (The one that has stores that aren't done being built yet), the gun store is tucked back into a little hallway, use your map to find it, it's a tough one to find. The boss battle is hard, too, in my opinion it's one of the hardest in the game, after the first day the boss in there leaves the gun shop anyways, but it's alot more profitable to you if you kill him and get it early.

When your between cases (I think cases 2-3) you get almost the whole night to yourself (the first night that shows the zombies with red eyes in the cutscene), this is the best time to do this.

When you first get to the North Plaza save it in the bathroom, because you'll die alot the first few times.

When you get into the gun shop you'll see the cutscene, and once the cutscene is done, immediatly try to hide behind the store displays (the ones you can pick up). It'll take you a few tries to get your positioning right, because you need to be positioned exactly or he'll shoot you with his shotgun. Try to get yourself to the display closest to the counter, and when he goes to reload just jump over the counter and grab a shotgun, then just wait for him to throw you back over, then get back behind the display, and every time he reloads jump out shoot him 1 time with the shotgun, then hide again, if he is close to you you should only need 1 shotgun to kill him (20 shotgun shells for each shotgun). Once you beat him you get unlimited shotguns, sniper rifles, and handguns (handguns are in the counter, you need to smash the glass to get them). Don't even bother trying to manually aim, just run out, make Frank face him, and press X with the shotgun equipped, it'll auto-aim for you, it makes it faster for you to shoot then hide. If you find you run low on health in this battle, remember he has tons of wine behind his counter, to get the wine just follow the intructions on how to get the shotgun, except grab the wine and not the shotgun..

*SPOILER*

So.. if I were to go through the game now, failing the missions but gaining exp. and levelling up, when I start a new file right at the end I'll have all that experience and junk?

Yup - you get to start again as a super hard bastard :)

Right, time to go fail some missions and kick some ass.

Can I still do scoops even though I fail the cases? I liked the scoops.

wtf?
i accidently pressed save status and quit which means now im back at the VERY beginning of 72 hour mode at level 8
oh well, f*** the true ending, im gonna work on scoops and achievements
