whaaaaa?

A boy who almost had his head ripped from his body in a racing car accident has told Sky News he wants to get back behind the wheel.

The impact from the crash lifted 12-year-old Christopher Stewart's skull from the top of his spine - an injury which normally results in death.

Despite having trouble speaking, the young driver said he was "fine" and confirmed he wanted to get back on the racing track - but doubted his parents would let him.

Christopher suffered an internal decapitation during a 40mph smash on a track near Alton, Hampshire, in September.

The force of the crash also detached his tongue at the root.

Surgeons re-attached his head to his spine with metal plates and bone grafts during a six-hour operation. His parents were warned he only had a 7% chance of survival

:O :x

That's very disturbing.. I imagined a CSI style animation of the skull being detached from the spine and it freaked me out.

how they did they attach the head back to his body?

Just kidding. I know the kid didn't lose his head but "decapitated" is a misleading word here.

De ca pi ta ted
behead somebody or something: to cut off the head of somebody or something

not it's not; it's completely accurate ..read the article Henry

These server problems are give a pretty ironic tint to this article tbh :p:

Tt's better than becoming a bitter handicapper that's full of self pity.

I think the most disturbing thing, is that his tongue was detached at the root!

I've never heard of anything like that before.

Blimey, Soapbox racing has become so competetive.

Right attitude? he nearly died, he has permanent disabilities, and he's only twelve.

They'res a disturbing video of Chechen Muji beheading a Chechen Civilian in the woods. They cut off his head completely but because the nerve ends in the skull are still resting againts the nerve endings in the spine, he has more then enough consciousness to wrestle his head back on and move like a fast zombie for several seconds.

It is possible -- the brain even lives 5 minutes after the skull has been severed.

Nevermind, don't watch that video. You'll be more mad at Religion then you already are.

Just thinking that creeps me out...

Kerberos,
I'm not sure what you are talking about, but can you PM me the link?

^^ Henry the somethingrotten/awful lover of life D:

But wow, a 40mph crash did so much damage! Wasn't he wearing proper safety equipment which would prevent this kinda damage?

If he wants to drive... I say let him, but with that kind of handicap I'm afraid he'll never be ahead in the race.

Same thoughts here. o__O

I do not watch this kind of stuff, but I always wondered how is it like when someone is beheaded (how long is he conscious etc.) so maybe I'll even look for it and watch it for... educational purposes... D:

holy shit the brain can survive 5 minutes after the decapitation

enough for a cigarrete

how many of you guys thought, upon reading the title of this thread, that the boy's head actually became completely detached from his body (ie: as in, the body is here, the head is over there)?

Well, thinking that would insinuate DEATH. How would a dead man be able to continue driving....

Maybe a kid was driving, something cut his head off, and the damn car kept driving in circles?...that would make sense with the title too.

no, maybe he stuck his head out the window and you know what happened next

No, no we don't. Please explain in full and graphic detail. :|

That boys recovery is... remarkable to say the least. Why are children so hard to put down? Damn their youthful and flexible bodies.

Well... if it happened that way, he probably would of been driving down the road at a pretty high rate of speed. It must of been hot in the car, or he was up to no good, as his head would have been sticking out the window. For some strange reason, he was leaning as far out as he could beyond the side view mirror, while still able to retain control of the vehicle.

His control must not of been that good however, because he accidentally veered to the side of the road. He frantically straightened the wheel again, but not before his head collided violently with a street sign pole. The impact was forceful enough to snap his neck and cause it to floppily hang out the window. A bump in the road propelled his head back up enough to hit another sign. The now loose head wrapped more completely around the sign pole, and with the momentum of the vehicle, caused the entire spinal column to be ripped forcefully from the body, creating a hollow cavity within that just filled up with the gushing blood. The car then immediately crashed into the ditch.

Miraculously, scientists were able to retrieve his head and spinal column, plunge it BACK into the body... and repair his broken neck. When he regained use of his voice, the first words out of his mouth were, "Again!"
