(Guys I just misspelled Canada. Sorry, its a wireless keyboard and, yeah; continue reading)

This is the problem with most people who feel powerless or out of control. I call it, "the Jackass Effect".

They'll see something on the internet. Or hear about it on TV. Reguardless of where it is witnessed or listened to, unintellectual and unevolved tards, like this criminal here, will come out of the wood work and begin to reenact the most inane barbaric shit ever to get noticed. Now, I don't know who perpetraited the crime or who had to suffer through a bus full of people doing nothing to help him -- but please, for the love of Half-Life, if you see a crime or something like this happen, beat the perpetraitors up and save a life.

Socialism, Democracy, Islam, Christianity; we are all ****ing human.

So can we please stop treating our evolution and rise as a species like it absolutely means nothing?

(Can we also teach Kerberos spelling? Don't worry, that's my edit.)

As far as I can tell, the victim was probably dead before anyone could do anything. After all, the guy was stabbing him in the neck. The bus driver, the trucker, and the witness did the right thing by isolating the guy on the bus. The trucker had given them tire irons, etc, so if the killer had gotten off the bus I'd bet they would have used them.

However, don't underestimate human psychology in large groups. The larger the group, the less the chance of someone intervening. Something about the delegation of responsibility from personal to the group. Some of the greatest atrocities in history have occurred because of this. It's human psychology, but that doesn't make it right. Perhaps if people were aware of this sort of behavior, they would be more inclined to go against that instinct.

the victem was stabbed multiple times within a second or two, no one could have saved him even if they were right next to the perp. A mother threw her 6 year old child a few rows in front of where she was sitting because she was directly behind the perp ...she threw him to safety, this wasnt an issue of people looking out for your their own skin, not on all accoints

the guy was a lunatic this is not a reenactment of something someone saw on the internet. nothing like this has ever happened in canada ..it's a sociopath who finally snapped and took it out on the first person within reach ...or maybe the kid snored too loudly

This thread also does not deliver Internet Justice.

Good point.

I don't anticipate I'll get a response, but staticprimer, what is this psychological effect called?

It is called the bystander effect, and is largely influenced by the concept of diffusion of responsibility.

The bystander effect describes the fact that a single person is more likely to help in an emergency than a group of people. Diffusion of responsibility plays an important role in bystander effect. As more people are at an emergency there is less of a responsibility for an individual to respond to the situation. One explanation is that in a group an individual is anonymous and is not readily pointed out as an individual who can help.
