Since in about 2 hours my Defcon status in steam will change from "Pre-load complete; unreleased" to "Downloading" (despite what steam may say the only thing that has been downloaded in the pre-load are the sound files) to "100% - Ready" I felt the time was ready for make a thread on what peoples first impressions of the game are.

I've been looking forward to this game for a while now (c'mon your score is based on how many enemy civilians you kill with nuclear missiles, how can you not be at least interested?)

As you can tell, I have already bought it through steam (and saved myself a third of the price by doing so ).

Unfortunately, its 1:50AM here so there is the small matter of my daily requirement of sleep to factor in so I won't be able to post my own impressions until sometime tomorrow.

In case you haven't visited the steam store for a while and thus have never heard of the game Defcon

i would be lying if I said i wasn't tempted to get it

Just got it in time for the £5 deal :D Looks really ace, can't wait until seven!

Except, you don't get the awesome box with the awesome manual!

And the ability to download it anyway from Introversion :D

However, its all the same once the worlds a radioactive mess :D

I myself bought it directly from IV, so I get the boxed copy + a download version, also, it doesn't juts depends on how many enemy civilians you kill.. In the default mode it depends on how many losses YOU take, and how many losses you GIVE, there are different options also, such as Genocide I think they said it was called, where ONLY the casualties you inflict count, not the ones you take.:p

It's coming out at 6 GMT is it not? Better be. I can't fill two hours with masturbation.

It's supposed to be 6 PM GMT, but the timer on the site seems to think it's supposed to come out 7 PM GMT..

Will order from IV directly when I get home. I think its best to make sure they see more of the direct profits. This game looks incredibly fun and hopefully some world leaders will get involved in the multiplayer so that they can see what happens when threats turn into something much more deadly....

Well in England at the moment we are GMT + 1, so since they are English developers, then presumably yes it should say 7PM. :p

DAMMIT, ONE HOUR MORE!

...gotta sent that apply form.

Technically, England is just GMT, and 'ordinarily' Amsterdam, Berlin, Bern, Rome, Stockholm(Where I live) and Wien are GMT +1, but I got confused because I usually don't count in the daylight savings as + or minuses in the GMT, so you'll have to excuse me ^^

I probably won't buy it unless there's a demo.

Edge gave it 7/10 and said you're fecked unless you have Europe, or something like that, I can't remember exactly.

Noes 15mins before release and you go and squander my hopes and dreams that this would be awesome! ;(

Edge are all uptight arseholes. PCGamer, whose reviews I always agree with gave it 87%.

Apart from the fact they praise FEAR too much.

EDIT: There is a demo though. Released "soon"

What the hell? Demo? Steam hasn't authenticated my files. And it doesn't look like I'm the only one with this problem.

I'm still waiting for this extremely interesting simulator of nuclear holocaust....:(

I paid five quid for a demo. :|

Well... I didn't, but we've just been a bit ****ed over. I would feel bitter if the game wasn't truly beautiful and really really sadistic.

Wiped out the entire population of Tokyo in about 43 "minutes."

Problem has been fixed impressively quickly.

I love this game. It's... amazing. Each game takes maybe half an hour or so and you have just the perfect feeling of power mixed with helplessness.

I've played the tutorial, was pretty fun blowing the shit out of Tokyo etc. I'll play a proper game later.

Looked sweet when I clicked "rolling demo" and after a while defcon 1 started. Weee, lots of pretty colourful lines with nukes XD

It's Skirmish only. There is no campaign. Which is a shame, but it could be patched in. And if it isn't, it's possibly the best value game ever anyway.

True enough.

And I'm sure they could have thought up some sort of campaign. But who cares anyway? It's awesome. :E

Damn right.

It would be even more awesome if I didn't suck at it though :(

I always get all my points in the last minute or so. The countdown suddenly starts and I realise "SHIT" so I launch ALL my missiles all in one go. It's resulted in one win and three losses. :( I may try another game mode in a moment. Not Office mode though.

I end up with no silos or airforce.

Which is rather upsetting.

I always seem to have aircraft. Which is useful. I always forget about bombers and submarines. I just let them sit there throughout most of DEFCON 2 and suddenly realise they are going to waste.

One day, when I have an entirely empty day, I'd love to play an Office version against someone. That'd be darn cool.

Campaign? How would the story progress?

"Okay, so our objective is to nuke the crap out of everybody else and then uhh... well, we could probably break for lunch, huh?"

/me grabs demo...

Played the demo. Pretty cool. I like it.

I can't help but put ona Dr Strangelove accent and laugh maniacally as I press the nuke launch button.
